code 36

i'm having this problem in the esc circuit (165 ecm)... can't figure it out. code 36 "missing reference pulses in esc circuit".
i've replaced the pickup, dist. module, knock sensor, knock sensor module, tried another computer and chip, tested all the wires for continuity and proper voltage and grounds. keeps popping code 36. The car is driveable, but lacking power, and pings and feels like it's missing under hard acceleration, it's driving me nuts and i can't figure it out, any shop i take it to will probably only replace everything I have already replaced.
any help is much appreciated
thanks

Dont know where your getting your info, but if your sure you have a 165 ECM and a code 36 this is what you should be checking. This is from a factory repair manual.

the info i gave him is from experince 884+3 ,i had the same problem,i changed all the relays for the code 34,still nothing.then i pulled the plugs off the injectors to see if any one of them was not working, it turned out that one injector was bad.and it solved my problem by replacing the injector. people tend to forget that some times mechincal problems trigger codes that has gotten nothing to do with it,but he has code 36(mas air flow)it could be a relay or n injector like i said, sorry don't mean to put down 884+3
