Help me pick out a Cam...

Please. I have a fastburn crate motor with the lt4 hot cam currently. I am looking for something more now since I am taking out my radiator to install new dual fans. My accessories are easy to deal with and take off of the motor so I think now is a good time to change out the cam while the motor is IN the car. I have the MiniRam III intake with 58mm tb and Hooker long tubes. The car is MAF for now and is running an Ed Wright chip currently. So far so good with how the car runs. I really need to get it to a tuning facility to see what is truely going on with it though. Before I do that and spend the money to have it dynoed and or tuned, I would like to swap in a cam before hand while I can. What I want now is a little more power from a cam swap. I plan on swapping to either DFI or SD next year and also install a Procharger so I would like a blower freindly cam also. This is more than likely asking for two different things at once but if I can find something that will work well, than I will go with it. Any suggestions, experiences, opinions(good or bad) are welcome. Thanks

Does anyone have a similar setup? heads, intake, cam? I know of a guy who did the same exact thing (which is where I got the idea to run a blower next year) but I did not find out what cam he went with. He worked the heads, installed new pistons, put in a different cam and ran the MR with I believe an A4. The info I have claims that he ran low 11s consistantly in the qtr mile. Any cam suggestions would be cool. I want to hear from people who have done it than some tech guy over the phone.

What times do you run with the current setup?

I do not have any. The motor has less than 50 miles on it. When I bought the lt4 cam I thought I was going with a carb so I sat on it for a while and as time went by I upgraded mostly everything. This is why I am swapping out the fan now, because I have money. Like I said, it will be fairly easy to do now so I would like to put in another cam for some more power. This car was also going to be a daily driver but that has now changed so as you can see, my plans have changed a lot from when I first purchased the motor. I just wish I knew all of this a few years back when I decided to do the motor swap. I would have saved time and money. Funny enough, those two things have led me up to this point. Just a "poor" college kid worked to death trying to blow his cash on his car.

If you are going to put a blower on the car that changes everything. I would call a cam manufacturor for their recomendation. Your compression ratio will also determine how much boost you can use. Allen

Thanks for the reply Allen. That is what is tuff. Since I do not have the money for everything at once, it makes it difficult to get the best parts now so I can use it and get the most out of it. I don't want to compromise anymore. So with that, those with MRs n/a, what cams have you used, also what size motor are you running it on? Closer to a 350ci would be best for referance. thanks again

Well, now that I have a reliable daily driver, driveability is not a big issue. I will drive it a lot and not just on Sundays, maybe 2-300 miles a week during nice weather. I built it to enjoy it, not to look at it. Enjoying it means driving it. As far as an rmp range, right now I believe they recommend a 5800rpm max on the zz4 bottom end. So I expect this motor to run up to 6000rpm as it sits. With the MR it will be tough to get a useable powerband down low, I know this. As it sits I have not gone up past 4500 to break in the motor. I still have some work to do to get it in a state where I can clock on some break in miles. Mainly new fans.

You could try the CC306. Gm also has the 847 and 846 cams.
