Which is better AS&M semi-siamesed or Ported SLP runners?
I have been looking into runner options for a while now and am between the AS&M SS and the SLP runners. I know the SLP ones are about 1/2 the price of the AS&M ones but can they be made as good without openning them up to get at the central part of the runner. Does anyone have flow numbers for both and any advise for porting the SLPs to get the best results. I have searched but there are so many threads to look through that it becomes hard to come up with a good answer.

In a recent magazine article (Super Rod Feb '05), they tested different intake systems. Two of them are what you are asking about.
Testing was done on a 383 with nice heads and cam. As comparison, SLP runners flow slightly less than the TPIS runners.
TPIS Extrude-Honed Big Mouth System.
The first one was an extrude honed TPIS Big Mouth system which included the manifold ($425) & runners ($475). This system together created 460hp and 534 ft/lbs. Torque peaked at 3800-4000RPM, about the same as stock.
AS&M Siamesed
AS&M sent the runners($460 roughly with shipping), a port matched plenum, and super rod mag mated it to the big mouth manifold($425). This setup made
464hp and 510 ft/lbs, however, the runners moved the peak torque up to 4200RPM where as the stock and TPIS peaks were 3800RPM.
I think they main factor in the report is that you need to match the intake (hp and torque) with what you need. I can tell you that the AS&M has a broader torque band, even though it has less torque.
Extrude honing anything usually cost a hella lot. By the time you make the TPIS flow more, you have already spent more. Also, you will need to get a matching base, I found that the TPIS is the cheapest, which they are the most expensive in everything else.

The TPIS base was NOT extrude honed. The Big Mouth base is cast by Edelcrap for TPIS (same base) and is then hand ported by TPIS. The extrude honed baseplate was a stock one. And IIRC the TPIS LTRs are AS&M repackaged ones.

That's right. The edelbrock system was the one extrude-honed.

What a conspiracy- only ONE company making the TPI and TPI/VORTEC manifolds.
Pretty soon... EDELSNOT will be making all the manifolds at GM. Maybe that is why they use plastic now.
