305 TPI, installing LT4 Hot Cam
Anyone else running this combination? Just curious on what your opinions are, and things I should look forward to.. (install, tuning, etc)
Right now I'm stock, but have the parts in hand and intend to install aluminum L98 heads (obviously install high lift springs, considering 1.5 RR), LT4 Hot Cam and headers at the same time. Tuning, obviously, will be done after installation.
Is this a good combination, will it work... break, rip, choke?

Interesting.....!
By your Post title, I thought it was too big a cam for a stock headed 305, then you said L98 heads, and I thought hmmmmmm.
Good luck, keep us posted. Btw, what headers are you gonna run?

havn't bought headers yet, seriously considering a set of Edelbrock TES headers with the new ti-tech coating.. 1 5/8 primaries.
...or should I go bigger??
My plan is to run this setup until the bottom end goes.. then upgrade to a 350ci or stroker....

I'm under the influence that any header; whether it be 1-5/8 or 1-3/4, is better than the GM logs that they put on our engines.
But did you think about Long tubes? I'm thinking of those, but I want to lower my car by about 1" and never got a clear answer if they would scrape.

I've heard L98 heads work, but do lower compression. On the other hand, aluminum L98 Vette heads work and won't lower compression.

Definately not a good cam choice for your combo. Maybe if you had a high revving intake or a 350 it would be ok, but you have a stock TPI 305. As it is LT4 hotcam will just be getting started about 500 rpm after the rest of your engine has given up. On a 305 hotcam will want to make power a lot higher in the rev range because of the lower displacement. It will also be much less well-mannered than a hotcam equipped 350. In short, go for something with a lot less duration. Even with my combo I could stand for a cam that wakes up a little earlier, and given the rev range that LT4 hotcam operates in it is not the best option out there. Your best move is probably a port&polish on the 305 heads and a cam that will make good midrange torque. Or you could build a pretty nice high compression 350 with ported and polished 305 heads.
