108 octane gas, OK?

I have a chance to get some 108 octane gas for 2.25 a gallon and it come in 55 gallon drums. Guy says the color of the gas is blueish.

With gas prices now that would be the same.

Should I get it? and will it harm my engine? I guess I could mix it half and half?

You don't really need it, you'll be wasting your money. It's a bit much for your car. Premium pump gas will do just fine for your car.

Well at that price I would buy as much as possible, that is cheaper the low grade here in NY is.

Im guessing that at 2.25 a gallon thats cheaper than premium at the pump... I know it is in my area anyway where premium is like 2.40 a gallon.

In Ottawa, Ontario, Canada I am paying:

$0.93 Canadian per Liter

1 Gallon = 4 Liters

$0.93 Canadian = $0.74 USA Using exchange of 0.792011

So, 1 gallon in Ottawa, Canada is 4 x $0.74 = $2.96

Edit - This is HiTest...

I was reading an article in the paper last week that said 108+ Octane gas was going for around 3.30 a gallon in the NY capital region.

Needless to say, that is a good price

I am pretty sure that it can be either or and if it is leaded it would ruin the cat. converter. Just make sure before you buy it.

You should be fine than. The only thing lead can hurt is the carb. In fact, air planes have lead in their fule to prolong engine life (or something like that, I forgot exactly why).

Again, you wont see any gains by using such a high octane, but if it's cheaper than local gas I dont see why you shouldn't buy it.

lead was in fuel to cushion valve seats and guides. the higher the octane the slower the fuel burns. if you are not pinging now you dont need it. the lead will plug your converter. if you still buy it bump your static timing up to try and get some gain

Lead and oxygen sensors don't mix well...as lead will coat the sensor and make it ineffective.

is 108 usually leaded or unleaded? do they even still make leaded gas?

When I fill up I spend about $30.00 and that for just about 15 gallons.

So if I can get the 55 gallon drum of 108 for $123.75 ....that seems like I good price even if I just mix it 1/2 & 1/2

Heres an article I found online. [QUOTE][QUOTE] Unocal’s 76 Racing Gasoline offers two different types of racing gas: 108-octane leaded and 100-octane unleaded. The 100-octane unleaded is oxygenated and therefore legal for use in street-driven vehicles. Often, 100 may be more octane than you really need for your engine. You can mix the 100-unleaded with 92-octane pump gas to create the octane you need to eliminate detonation. Yes they still make leaded gas but it is fairly expensive and is not easily found. Either way it is a really good price, why dont you just ask the person you are buying it from if it is leaded or not?

i believe 108 is leaded
that is a great price
you can mix 3 gal of 87 and 1 gal 108 and come out at 92
good way to save some $$

but
i believe the O2 sensor might freak out

the higest unleaded i have seen is 104 from sunnoco
they also make GT100 unleaded too.

the cat. convertor doesn't like leaded gas either

I have ran 110 here in memphis quit a few times because my buddys dad has surplus for his race cars and there was times when we didnt have the money for gas. This was a few years ago when my car was bone stock and i never had a problem. He ran it thourgh his vortec silverado and never had a problem.

Like iroc&harley said bump up your timing and take advantage of it.

Only thing I'd be concerned about is a 55 gallon drum of gas is like 30 sticks of TNT. Don't store near the water heater

Do you really want to deal with filling your car up with a 55 gallon drum when you need gas? Seems like a hassle to save a few cents a gallon.
