using a 7730 ECM from a cavelier

Hi I just bought a 7730 ECM out of a cavelier. What I need to know is what I need to get this thing to work with my TPI. I understand I need a prom, but does that usually include a memcal? Or is the prom and memcal the same thing? I am confused about that. If i go to the dealer and by a prom do i get what I need? Will my truck even run with the cavelier prom? I got my truck running with a 747 TBI ecm but there is so much black smoke out of the exhaust. And I checked all the sensors (coolant temp and map) It just wasn't made to run a TPI! but it was all I had and had to try it.
Thanks Guys!

Should work fine for a Speed Density setup.

You'll need some tweaking in the PROM though...off the shelf won't work...All SD's from F-bodies had VAT's, think the PROM/Memcal is the same in the SD setups, also has a knock module (ESC) in there too. You'll need to get the correct knock sensor.

You do have a SD harness for the TPI? Or you'll have to look for the thread about repinning the TBI harness to work with the ECM. Jst some things to think about, there's probably others...VSS may not be compatible, etc.

Ya the truck is running right now so i will just have to repin the ecm connectors to work with the 7730 ecm. So what your saying is the prom in the cav ecm will work just have to tweek it?

No, the PROM in the cav won't work...it was probably designed to runa 4 or 6 cyl...most defintely not a V8.

You need to start witha V8 TPI chip...only ones I know of are F-Bodies and Corvettes

I/m about 90% sure...may want to ask on the DIY_PROM Forum, if no one else chimes in.

The V-8 Memcal has the prom in it and the knock module but you will need the v-8 knock sensor.
The # for an auto F-body is *AUJP 16151348* It has VATS (vehicle anti theft system) so you will have to have it removed or the vehicle won't start.

You have a few ways to go...

Get the 305/T5 chip from an F-body and have the injector constants changed to 22/lb injectors and tune from there...or start with a Vette 350 (thin it's a 6 speed, but might work the same) and tune from there...both will still require to disable VATs...unless your vehicle has it?

Other option is to contact some of the more well know PROM nurners with your setup, and have them make you a chip to get you close
