dont know if its a real iroc

Bought a car 1987 with a 305 tpi. Its blue what color is the iroc-z on the doors and what do the emblems say on the side and back bumper? Does it say z28 or iroc-z and shouldnt there be an iroc z on the dash on the passanger side?

Car: Formula, a big red brick.
Engine: A Ford 351 Windsor... ?
Transmission: Dodge 727
My 86 IROC had Z28 on the bumper and on the ground effects. A blue IROC could have had black or gold IROC stickers from what I understand, but I could be very very wrong as that information comes third party.

I forget what my dash had on it.

See if the RPO codes are still in the glovebox should tell you what you have.

Check the 8th letter of the Vin...305TPI is an "F", IIRC...if so, then pretty sure it's an IROC. "8" was for the L98-350, "E" for TBI 305's

For lettering color, try the history and restoration forum. There were a few different colors available for each year.

1985-1987 IROC-Zs said Z28 in the rocker panels and on the bumper. This is because they were z28 with the IROC package. In 1988, the Z28 option was dropped and you could only get an IROC-Z, no z28.

The Z28 package returned in 1991.

Although this may answer your question, it still doesn't prove that you have an IROC-Z. You could have a Z28 with IROC decals. You will need to do some more investigating.

May want to recheck the VIN again, only "7" i know of is the 350TBI for 89-91? Caprice engines, I'm not sure the F-Body had a 7 for the 8th character.

You are partically correct. From 1988 to 1990 the Z28 did indeed still exist. It's just that all Z28's were also IROC-Z's. In these years the RPO for the IROC-Z was in fact "Z28". The cars say Z28 on them, so it's not really accurate to claim that they were not Z28's, but rather they were both.

From 1985 to 1987 the IROC-Z was not a model in itself, but rather an option that could be ordered on top of the Z28. So in these years there was a seperate option code specifically for the IROC-Z. This code was "B4Z".

So the answer to the original poster's question is that in order for his 1987 model car to be a true IROC-Z, he must have both the "Z28" and "B4Z" codes on his SPID label.
