All the sbc bolt patterns I've seen are the same, and even for vortec as well. The differences are where the intake manifold bolts to the heads.

87+ TPI has a different bolt pattern. You will have to make sure you get heads for 87 and up. Or you can just get an older 86 lower intake and use that. For vortec head you will need to get a special intake which you can order. All the info you need can easily be found by doing a search on these boards.

ok, the bolt patter for pre 86 is only slightly differant than the 87-92 many people just hog out the center holes on the intake and use the newer intake on the older heads and same the other way (some even use shims under the bolts too but, is not "needed to work") check out stealth ram .com
the other style heads vortec fast burns ect are usable but, require alot more work mostly due to port hight (you would have to have some real fabrication skills) or buy the vortech tpi base to use on the vortech heads
what you should look for are intake ports 180cc for a max on the "stock" tpi intake.
be carefull on plug angle our stock heads are strait plugs. do a real good search for what headers you plan to run and what heads they fit. l98 is often the corvette head even though our iron heads are l98 the plugs and angle are a world of a differance
decide if you want centerbolt valve covers or not

what heads are you getting? the sallie sp? chevrolet ones that are made for higher lift? or the stockers that max around .480 lift?
do you care how it idles?
you could see 190hp to around 400 hp really depending on alot around the 400 hp mark
the lift needs tobe decided first

here read through this, http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/Cyli...ds/Vortec.html
this will tell you abit better than I can
the cam well? if I had to throw a guess out there I would say the hot cam or cc305 cam. do a search on the cc305 cam which I here is a pretty good cam and I think it has a better idle than the hot cam. anyway this stuff should help
