i really screwed up my timing.. need help

i really screwed up my timing.. need help
i took out my distributor the other day, didnt mark or remember where the rotor was pointing..
from what i remember it was towards #1... so when i went to go put it back in a few days later... it would only go all the way in if the rotor was pointing at #3... which really didnt seem right to me..
SO.. me being stupid, i turned the oil pump shaft until i could put the distributor in all the way and pointing at #1.. well timing is way off now..
i have a compression tester(the kind that screws into the plug hole), i took out all other plugs. ive been turning the motor over by hand, but the damn thing only registers 10PSI, then never moves.. ive turned the engine over about 4 full revolutions..
now if i bump it with the starter.. compression is about 160psi.. but i cant tell if the #1 is TDC... so how do i get back to TDC on the compression stroke, so i can set the rotor???
help.. getting pissed..

Assuming your HB hasn't slipped...
Once you start to feel compresson on #1, continue to rotate the engine until the timing slash on the ring is at "0" on the tab. #1 will be about as close to TDC as you can get.

Take the gauge off the end of your compression tester, then rotate the engine by hand until you hear the air hissing through the hose. Once you hear the hose hissing, just turn it so the balancer's timing mark is at 0 degrees

lol, close, but not quite 
Taking the gauge off makes a pretty distinctive noise, so you can be sure it is on the compression stroke, rather than just trying to watch for the needle to go up, lol

Naw, you did explain it better, I just assumed when I said "feel", he'd ahve his finger over the hole.
