ok, so this might be a stupid question, i know.
what heads came stock in 88 on a 305 tpi?
somewhere i heard they might be vortec heads, sounds wrong to me.
if it is wrong, will i be able to put a set of vortec heads on my motor and still run my tpi???
just wondering.

If you were to get vortecs on your tpi car, you would need a vortec tpi base. If you go with the 305, ported tpi, vortec head, that baby is gonna rev a ton better than your stocker.

How about power gains????
I just picked up a pair of vortec heads and a TPI setup for my car and am simply going to have the manifold bolts redrilled. Then, a friend is going to port match everything. What is the expected power increase? Approximatly...

Also a possible stock LT1 cam...

I'd look into that more, you can make a stock TPI manifold work with the vorted heads.

the vortec head ports are taller then the normal sbc head.

thats why you need a dedicated intaje maniforl.

if you run double gaskets or thick enough gaskets, the intake will sit high enough to be even w/ the port. I've done it twice now.

Yes, you can make a stock intake work, though not very well. Got a friend that did it. He loves the vacuum leaks that came with it. He covets my SDPC intake, maybe he'll get it when I move to a StealthRam.

if its so troubling to make a stock intake base work, why not just buy the vortec one? if you got the cash bucks to drop on the heads in the first place it shouldnt be that big of a wallet killer.

EBAY!! The guy had his title as
"Complete ChevroletTune Port Injection" note, no space.
There where 18 views at the end of the auction, 6 of them where mine. And he was close by.

Also a possible stock LT1 cam...
I have a camaro performers magazine that has the SDPC article in it for when they first introduced the TPI vortec manifold. With just the head swap from the L98 heads to vortecs and the tpi base the horse power went from 245hp to 305hp. That was with the stock L98 cam and no other bolt ons. Thats about the same horsepower the LS1 was making when it first came out. When they added an LT4 hotcam and a set of headers, (17/8 headmans or hookers, i dont remember) a set of 1.6 roller rockers, a set of edelbrock high flow runners and a 52mm throttle body they got up to 356 hp (285 hp at the rear wheels) I liked the way the set up ran and im almost done with a similar build up, although i dont believe ill get those numbers being that i dont have the same cam ( a bit more milder than the lt4). Just thought id give an idea on the subject from an article that has helped me make my decision at the time.
