383 TPI Question.
Okay heres my dilemma. this car is made to take peoples money. I've really been planning fully building up this motor but keep TPI so I can play it off as a 305 with work done
. I was going to buy the aftermarket intake and runner by edelbrock then get them ported and polished will that open it up alot more?

dont see why you wouldnt be able to pass it off as a 305. my 355 with a fairly lumpy cam passed as a 305 that needed carb tuning, after i dropped the idle down WAY low. opened the hood, he saw CARB legal headers, an Edelbrock 1405 with the choke wired open, shiny new Performer RPM intake, and mismatched paint on the engine. poor little Mustang never knew what hit him.

I bet that was great...I guess it would be fairly easy to pass it off wouldn't it...

as far as that goes you can pass off a 400 or even a 415 SBC as a 305...
BTW, Lingenfelter offeres a 420SBC L98 conversion for only $22,485.

I'm going to try and pass off the 11:1 406 roller motor topped off with a modified FIRST unit (which looks a lot like the stock TPI) I'm building for my MCSS as a 305. Hopefully they'll think I'm totally nuts for running 1.875" diameter headers and dual 3.5" Borlas on a 305TPI.
Ok,,, I'm kidding about trying to pass it off as a 305, but the first engine I had in the SS (back in 1987) was an internally balanced 406 with Dart II cast iron heads. I was running a 7525 Wieand intake (low rise single plane with EGR), stock valve covers, tricked out computer controlled quad. It was mild, ran 13.2s on the engine and I had a 150 shot (dropping it to 11.8s) with the solenoids painted black and the lines from them to the plate covered in rubber hose and a wire loom covering the nitrous feed line,,, that I added wires to and taped up inside the loom. I had a guy point to the solenoid once and ask what it was,, I said dude,,, with all that emissions crap under there,,, you're going to have to tell me what it is. He gestured that he didn't know and said lets do this. I didn't consider that as a lie back then,,, although it surely was deceitful. Since I didn't have to spray the guy, I didn't feel too badly for taking the cash. I won a lot of money with that set up.
To get back on subject,,,, that FIRST Injections unit would be a good "trick" intake. Looks close enough to pass off to most non-tpi guys as a TPI and with mods can support a serious engine. Its $1000 with throttle body,,, which isn't too bad considering a good base runs $375, runners are upwards of $300, and a T/B cost around $300. On the cheap, porting the stock base and modifying a set of SLP runners will give good results for the money,, assuming you've done a little porting before

I have considered the GM motorsports 383 Long Block engine with the fastburn heads, get the Scroggin Dickey Vortec base and put my oversized runners on...
If done right no one would be wiser...

I spoze that would work. I was just thinking about what would make it look like an unmolested stock motor that had never been out of the car. A painted block and heads would be a red flag to me if was looking at a motor. I may not think they were Aluminum but I would know that the motor had been messed with.

stand back 10 feet throw rocks at it, and then take some dirt mixed with used motor oil to spray on the engine, then wipe it off best you can so it looks like its been in there a while.

wow guys thanks for the input. I'm not sure how I'm going to pull off brand new AFR heads as. well. old
just realized that. anything else with great flow but I can either port the **** out of or I can just get new that don't look so. spiffy? as I said this motor needs roughly 500 ft/lbs of torque then it's going to be sprayed. any other helpful hints?

got a moser 12 bolt with a built T56. so driveline and rear aren't a prob. dont' forget it's going to be on juice =D. unless I see 500 ft/lbs. motor then I'm going to put a supercharger on it. which I'd rather not do
