Engine Has A Bumping Power Loss

I HAVE A 1988 IROC-Z WITH 5.7 TPI. EVERYTHING IS NEW BUT THE WIRE HARNESS. THE ENGINE MAKES A BUMPING NOISE, CAUSING A POWER LOSS. I AT FIRST THOUGHT IGNITION ARCING OR IGNITION PROBLEMS, BUT TO NO AVAIL, THAT WASN'T IT. IT IDLES FINE AT START, BUT THEN IT STARTS TO DO THIS D--- BUMPING STUFF. IT'S KINDA HARD TO DESCRIBE. PLEASE HELP!!!
