350 tpi questions
Hello all,
I have a stock 87 formula 350 tpi. I am getting ready to rebuild over the winter. What kind of upgrades can i do to get about 100hp more? I know i can do exhaust, air induction ect. what kind of cam would be good? I would appreciate any information.

Hey there
Im in Schererville about 30 min from you. Hit the NW IN/South Chicago Board here under the regional section as well.
For what you are trying to do, if u want an honest 100hp more, you looking at heads and cam, along with a full intake and exhaust.
Also seriously consider getting into Prom tuning as well, while the engine is still stock, it will pay large rewards later.

"350 TPI Questions"
That's a lotta damned TPI questions. I could probably only think of 30-40 really good ones.
3.8 (Jeremy) is usually correct. This time, he's WRONG! Getting into PROM tuning won't "pay large rewards later" as he suggests. It will help a lot right now, even stock. It may not help the stock engine make another herd of horsepower, but it will optimize what you have, and give you valuable experience to use later. If you know how it works in stock form, and what you can do to alter it, it will be an excellent basis for tuning for modded engines. Unless you encounter some really freak injectors or some other oddity, you should just about be able to master the programming for nearly any TPI.
Personally, I'd jump right into the later version ($6E) PROM codes and masks, since they are well supported and are very commonly used as a basis for naturally aspirated engine power tuning.
There is a member who frequents the DIY-PROM board with a name almost identical to "3.8TransAM", and, coincidentally, also lives near you. He knows the programming for these ECMs and fuel systems quite well, and would be able to walk you through a lot of the normal startup burning questions just by reading his past threads.
This "3.8-guy", I'm not so sure about though.

Engine: 5.7 350 TPI - SLP Runners, AFPR, MSD Goodies
Transmission: 700R4 - Shift Kit, Corvette Servo

If your on a budget, I would look into a Vortec Head, Vortec Base StealthRam, and Cam. That would be 100 EASY
