86 camaro iroc z starter replacement

I have a 1986 camaro iroc z28 305 tpi. my starter went out and we are now trying to replace it, we got the old starter out ,but now we are having a problem getting the new one back in the car, is their a trick to doing this something we don't know about? any help with this would be appreciated.thanks you. wannalota

If the new one isn't bigger than the old one, then you just need to contort it the same way you did to get the old one out.

With my IROC, I was not able to remove the stock starter with the y-pipe installed. The automatic starter is larger than the 5-speed starter, and the 85 IROC has a large y-pipe. But, since you already got the old one out, you already know that the new one can fit if it's the same size, so just figure out how to twist it to get it there.
