Searched, now have LB9 questions
Ok, I searched around a bit and looked through 11 or so pages of info.
I have a few basic questions about my LB9 build up.
My main use for this car is going to be AutoX, so my main concern is handling. However the 182 Rear wheel HP I dynoed at isn't going to cut it.
I am looking to be in the mid-200's at the wheels for HP, hopefully upper-200's Torque wise.
From what I have read, I should be fine with the stock heads (a mild port and polish). Eventually I will be going Forced Induction, so I'm not too concerned about the heads.
I'm still up in the air about the Lower Intake Manifold. I am assuming I can run stock ported, unless someone has a good suggestion.
Camshaft is still up in the air, I honestly have no idea as which specs I need. Again, any suggestions?
I will be going with Hooker Headers (2055's which are the shorties, IIRC) and making my own 3" SLP Loudmouth.
Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Well many will balk at the cylinder heads I am running, but in the grand scheme of things they were dirt cheap and are well worth it in my opinion. ($600) Some are running very strong with stock iron heads and I have no idea how they are doing it. mw66nova ran a 13.03 @103 but I dont know what head work he had. TunedPort335 has run 13.40ish but at 98mph i believe, unbeliveably he is still running stock heads and intake... There are tons of guys running right around 14.0 with stock heads which is respectable. Other than that I have one of the fastest trapping NA 305s around here which indicates my LB9 is one of the more powerful ones around. (not bragging, there are faster LB9s out there, but not very many) Too bad i suck at launching since I swapped in the TKO-600, thats why I have such a crappy 2.1 60ft but I digress.
Anyway, check my sig for the combo. Unfortunately I do not have a roller cam, wish I did. The only thing I would do different is back down the duration just a tad. Other than that I am happy with my combo. I just got into autocross and it is a blast.

Yeah, you came up in quite a few of the posts I looked at, and I am impressed to say the least.
I guess the main reason I am keeping the motor is sentimental value plus I want to be a bit different.
I have heard that when you go Forced Induction head flow doesn't make too much of a difference since you're pretty much ramming the air in there, however I imagine some port work would help quite a bit.
I would love to find some aluminum heads, however the compression loss would kill me 'till I go F/I.
My motor is coming out this week, in fact I was seconds away from ordering my headers, but I waited for some reason. I would like to order everything all at once if possible.
I have heard good things about the Summit TPI came kit, anybody have a link or Part Number for it?

Thats the exact reason I kept my 305, it is fun to build something a little different. And since 600hp is not my goal I am happy with what I currently have, it is a great street car.
You should not lose more than a half point of compression or so by swapping to aluminum heads, they certainly didnt seem to hurt my performance much.

Yeah, I found the Summit TPI cam kit, for the price its definitely what I am going with.
I priced out all my parts and here's the list I'm looking at:
Milodon 7 qt Oil pan, passenger side dipstick (correct?)
Summit TPI Camshaft Kit
Summit Double Roller Timing Chain
Summit Stamped Roller Tip 1.6 Ratio Rockers
Hooker 2055 Headers and Y-Pipe
Total came to $738 and some change. Of course I still need a high flow oil pump and gasket kit.
My main goal with the motor being out is to clean up the block (and paint it) work the heads a bit (basically clean up, springs, maybe some valves, possible clean up the ports), and the camshaft. The other things I can do with the motor in the car, like the runners, lower intake manifold, etc.

mw66nova had untouched 416 heads, except for a valve job. The same heads that the thread starter has, minus the valve job. 416s don't seem to be as bad as everyone says.

Well I ordered some of the parts today:
Hooker 2055's
Milodon 7 qt. oil pan
Mr. Gasket engine gasket kit
These parts were not in stock, so I will order them in a week or so:
Summit TPI Cam kit
Summit 1.6 stamped steel roller rockers
All I have left is pushrods, timing chain and gears, oil pump, pickup and my Dynomouth exhaust
Hooker 2055's
Milodon 7 qt. oil pan

This looks like a sweet cam kit to me: LUN-60101LK $190 @ summit. It might give you the lift you want without needing to go with 1.6 rockers... And the duration numbers look lots better than the summitt G-5000 kit.

Yeah, I will definitely have to take a look at that. Currently the Summit TPI cam is on back order, as well as my Mr. Gasket rebuild kit, estimated arrival date is 4/05/06!
I definitely want to have my car on the road by the end of this month to the first part of next month. It's been 2 years almost since I have driven it.
That number you provided me, I assume that since it's a kit it will include new lifters and springs?
