Comp 224/230 and Dart Heads vs. LPE 219 and AFR 195's mated siamesed base/slp runners
Which one would be better? I am hearing mixed reviews and I wanted to put this out there and see what's up! Any input fellas? I am being pulled both ways here with people favoring both setups. Thanks guys

Depending on which cam and heads. If you are talking the Comp Cams XE 224 cam and the Dart Pro 1 200CC heads then that is the way to go. The Dart Pro 1 heads really flow well with a little clean up and are cheaper than the AFR's. The AFR's are good heads but you can do just as well and even better with less money. Regarding the 219 cam it is a good cam but technology is passing it up. There are better cams on the market for the money. Those are the reasons for my choice.

its all Personal wants. I went with a set of ARF heads (1036) & havent ran them yet heck Just got them installed on the engine yesterday, but I have heard from people who went Dart then changed over to AFRs & couldnt be happier.
I went with AFRs because I wanted to keep my Ratio down. but at the same time keep the car 100% streetable

Patriot has some new small block CNC heads for like $1300 that look very good if your interested.
No experience on the newer DARTs however.
Only thing bad you will ever hear me say about AFR head flow capabilties it the price tag :-) They work nuff said.
I do believe there are better cam grinds out there than the 219 from Lingen, it does work however :-)
Check out some of the newer Comp grinds that I am defintiely a fan of, which going by the cam your talking about I think u have :-)

the new XFI comp cam grinds are really nice..
its just that they have a 218 degree cam and then a 230 degree cam.. nothing in the 220's which they could use.
i'm not sure on the flow numbers of the darts.. but that comp cam has been proven to make good power..
same with the LPE 219. superram LPE 219 AFR 195 combos on 355's is in the low 12's. 383's are near 11's

Which Dart heads?
Man, flip flopping.
Keep the intake runner volume low for low end efficiency, since you're only doing a 355 and you want to get only into the 12s. You also want to putz around with some decent mpg, IIRC.
Patriot heads seem OK. I don't think they have an EGR crossover, and that mattered to you at one point. Trickflow heads are CARB-EO and cheaper than AFR, FWIW. Personally, I wouldn't cheap out on heads.
Will, to make decisions easier. Set a few goals, how much $$$? How fast? MPG? How much power? Dyno queen? You also don't need those particular combos directly.
I'm not keen on the siamesed base and as cast SLP runners.
Pick your heads first, the cam decision will follow.

lol I did it backwards then. I picked my cam then my heads.
I also have a LPE cam in my engine www.lingenfelter.com/store/lpe-74216.html
& a set of 1036 AFR heads with upgraded springs

It's a weekend cruiser. MPG really won't be an issue, obviously around 10 would be nice, and I am sure it should do better than that making only about 350 to the wheels. But I just want a fun all around car. I don't need huge performance, but something that can hold it's own. I like AFR's, but hear that aluminum vs cast for a stop light to stop light car favors cast because of it will retain the heat. Any thoughts? I am finding out that I can get pretty aggressive with a cam and still smog, but I don't want to go bigger than a 224/230. I want a combo that will give me proven power, reliability and still pass smog. Thanks all
