Starting Problem
Starting Problem
Well I just finished putting an 88 305 into my iroc. Well the problem is it will start but only run for a few seconds then quit. The fuel pump runs abnormally long but it has good pressure, I checked it with a gauge. Spark is good, I used a spark tester and a timing light. The motor is in time.
So I figure the problem lies in the fuel system. Tomorrow I'm replacing the fuel filter because I don't know when it was last changed. I think it's plugged and causing it to run longer than I've heard it do before. Other than that I'm unsure of what to do. Any ideas?

while you are cranking does the gauge stay around 40 psi. put a noid light on the injectors and see if you are getting signal.
It sounds like VATS to me

well i replaced the fuel filter and that made no difference. What would cause the injectors not to fire? If remove all the injectors besides the cold start one it runs the same as if I had left them all on. But unplug the cold start and theres nothing.

Well today I pulled up the fuel rail and the injectors weren't spraying, only the cold start. So I switched the connecter from the cold-start to another injector turned the engine over and that injector sprayed. Why aren't the injectors getting the signal to fire?

dude have you built 5 of these cars. good then do not question good advise when you get it. take the ignition module out and have it tested at autozone or a similar place. the ignition module recieves the signal to fire the injectors.
I hate wasting my time.
you did not have to pull the fuel rail all you had to to is get a noid light and see if you were getting the signal to the injectors. then you find out if the ignition coil is ok then you find out if the pickup coil has the proper resistance and then you check the voltage at the computer that initially fires the injectors then you start to think about a computer.
You wasted your weekend because you think you know better than people who could put your car together if you took it all apart and made a big pile of parts.
Next time buy the helms manual(that is the dealership service manual) and go through the diagnostic test before asking us to help you when all you want to do is figure it out yourself.

Are there any trouble codes? Try changing your MAF burnoff relay. Sounds like what mine was doing. autozone and advance dont have it in their catalog but if you go there ask for the MR22 relay from GP Sorensen
Well I went to advance and autozone to have it tested. The first time at advance it failed the low rpm part but he tested it again a few times and it passed everytime. And at autozone it was tested like 8 times and passed each time.
So at the same time I converted my to a small cap hei. But I connected the wiring with the new pigtail right. I think. Both connecters were labled ABCD and I matched up the letters and soldered the wires together. So would that make a difference.

oil preasure sensor will not aloow the injectors to fire either, if it senses low oil preasure or is shot.Check that aswell.
