Timing?

Timing?
what should i set my timing too... ive heard 10*-15* is ok but thats a pretty big diff for base timing isnt it? i have a hypertech chip(came with car) and the stock one... i want to do this for the track and i will run 93 octane and porlly octane boost if i need it... what would be best to start at... 10* w/ chip or 15 w/o chip or any combination?... its a lb9 G92 stock but a cat-back and little stuff

i know its banned but i guess what i really want to know is how much does a hypertech chip change the timing? and should i compensate for it?

Unless the Hypertech chip came with instructions to reset the timing, it's probably designed to work the the stock 6* (I think that's the factory setting).
If you add initial timing the ECM is still going to advance the timing to whatever the PROM tells it to until you reach spark knock. I probably wouldnt go more than 10* initial.

honestly, it's really all trial and error
i have her car running at 14 base, but i am assuming there is a chip too, because it looks like someone did odd's~ends work to it.
i can see how rapid her advance goes.
octance boost is ...... never mind i wont get into that
i also never get any pinging in her car and we run 93
also the temps in her car are cooler then stock, so that might help

That depends from engine to engine. If you decide to experiment, only change the timing with a timing light (you can't set it correctly otherwise), and move it in 2 degree increments.
How big of a difference the Hypertech makes depend on what stock baseline you compare it to. From what I have seen, they add 1-2 degrees, which is not a big deal.
There is alot more into finding ideal timing than the "advance it til it knocks" idea. More advance doesn't always mean you make more power. In addition, you put alot of extra stress on engine internals with every bit of timing you add. Not trying to scare you, just want to make it a point not to run your timing at 50 degrees or something crazy like that.
While I'm on the subject, the proper way to determine knock is with a scantool, or laptop hooked up to the car. You can have knock and not hear it. Actually, if you can hear it, its pretty severe and the knock sensor may not be able to pick it up anymore.
