Sweet. Where does the air filter go? I bought one of those LT1 intake tubes long ago, but couldn't find that blue throttle body to elbow hose that you have, so I sent it back. Where did you find that silicone hose?

 

Thanks. The air filter goes underneath the engine compartment right in front of the wheel well. I'll take pictures of it as soon as I get my camera back. I got the blue silicone hose from a freind of mine that works at a deisel truck repair shop. It's a 4X6" cold side hose. You can find one on ebay or do a search for deisel truck tubing.

 

Nice job. I did something similiar when I had my MAF but went with a 3.5" tube. How smooth is the transition from the LT1 elbow to the MAF? I made up a plastic piece to act like a funnel when I did mine. Glued it to the MAF. Same on the other end where I transitioned from the MAF to the 3.5" intake.

 

The MAF actually fit snug straight into the LT1 elbow. All I did was use some gasket maker (The Right Stuff-works great!) to hold and seal the peices together. In front of the MAF I used a 3-4" silicone coupler that I got from EBay.

 

That looks almost exactly like my brother's LT4 (see sig) intake that he made. I deleted the MAF in the PCM so he has a 4" rubber elbow off the throttle body striaght into a 4" mandrel bend from a diesel truck shop going down in front of the driver side wheel. What good is a 4" exhaust with a 3" intake?

Thats pretty nice you picked up .8 with just that intake.

Is your 4" Borla XR-1 a cat-back or a muffler? You have a mufflex y pipe, not the entire system? I'm just looking into different exhausts for my car and am trying to save money without doing a bunch of labor. What is the diameter of your catback? I found that I could custom build a full stainless exhaust with a 3" ypipe and a 4" catback for around $500 in parts. I am just losing the patience to actually do it, after my last project took so long.

also, I'm guessing you relocated the battery to the rear???

I picked up 8 tenths at the track because of the exhaust, not the intake. That time I ran I had a SLP cold air induction kit. No times yet with the new intake. Last year I used to run SLP 1 5/8" headers into a Borla Catback with the restrictor plate closed. On a nitrous motor that exhaust set up didn't take full advantage of what I had. Now my exhaust system consists of Hooker full length ceramic coated headers with 1 3/4" primaries, a Mufflex 3-4" y pipe, and a custom 4" catback made by Mufflex Performance into a 4" Borla XR-1 straight-through type muffler. $500 for your scenario is pretty cheap. I'd say go for it. I spent that much in just my y pipe and muffler!

on the LT1 elbow what is that on the side of it? Some sort of sensor boss or something?

 

Yes. It looks like he put a rubber cork in it like I did.

 

That is the hole for the LT1's Intake Air Temp. sensor. I used a rubber plug and some epoxy to seal it.

 

looks pretty good. i thought about one like that for my camaro but dont know how i would stretch the maf wiring. i guess i could easily splice new gauge wire in there but figured i would go with the gutted air boxes into homemade ram air.
