TPI Max Power Question

Ok guys, I'm having Dyno Don build me up another long block to replace what is in the car now. Going to see how much power I can wring out of it. The motor is 355 cubic inch with a moded TPI system. Current set up, power and mods are in my signature. Future mods also in signature.

What are realistic goals? Right now I figure I'm around 400HP at the motor with the current setup. I don't think I will have a problem reaching 450HP at the motor with the new setup. Now is 475HP achievable? I think maybe if all goes perfect. I was hoping maybe 500HP but I think that is a bridge to far from my research using a L98. That would require 400RWHP running through a 700R4.

Maybe a more realistic goal is to reach a 11.99 et in the quarter mile with my full weight GTA. So which goal would be the more impressive? A high 400HP TPI motor or an 11.99 second ET. Maybe neither are in the cards.

I think you will hit 11.99 before 400whp. I don't know what's being done to the motor and intake, but G.O.D. knows that TPI's love torque and make plenty of it.

your definitely popping a 11 before hitting 400hp.. A 383 MADE 325HP AND WAS PULLING THOSE NUMBERS

You can look at the SuperRod intake comparison in the sticky above and you’ll see that their “500 horse” 10:1 383 had no troubles making 450 horses at 4800rpm with a modified TPI system. So,, is 450 crank horses reasonably obtainable with a similarly modified TPI system with ported heads Pro 1s on top a 355,,, I think so,, for what that’s worth. Plus,,, if you’re making 330rwhp now with 250cfm heads at cam lift, 275cfm heads at cam lift should put you at the 360rwhp mark,,, which is around 450crank. Changes in the exhaust, minor tweaks, a few engine building tricks,,, and you might squeak out 475 horse. As far as ET goes, I think you should have little to no trouble running an 11 with the planned mods as long as you can get the thing to hook and the rear-end and transmission hold up

I would be shooting for a 110-112mph trap. Anything less would be a let down.

Thanks for the replys. Just trying to see what the limits of a moded TPI system is with a 355 motor. I can get more "peak" horsepower with a bigger cam but looking for power under the curve and good streetability.

If anyone knows of good tips for finding horsepower let me know. I'm not going to go the coating route except on the headers and whats on my pistons. I think I have the "oil control" handled.

I agree on the trap speed in the 110-112 range. With the car setup right maybe the 11.99 might be doable. The transmission has some help with a 9 clutch 2-4 gears, cooler and Mobile one. The rearend has the TA Performance cover on it to help out and also Mobile 1.

If I was running a manual transmission I think the 400RWHP mark might be doable but with the 700R4 that is stretching it abit. Then again with these things you never know and I could come up way short.

There are a few cars ahead of me at Don's so I have to wait my turn. Maybe late summer at the earliest. The good thing it gives me time to really plan things out and do more research.

i think 450 is all your gonna get outta a 355. i think thats alot to be askin out of TPI and 355inches. i'd really go 383 if you want to hit 450hp tho. 475 might achievable thru a 383.. but your looking at a TPI system thats all cut up and max ported, and heads that flow a ton and a big cam and mainly, its all gonna come down to the tune

i'm lookin for 450-475hp outta a 383 with HSR, thats if i stay small block and not go LS1. HSR is will pull 2000 more rpms than TPI so those hp goals are fairly easy to reach.
