Roller Rockers and Valve conver Question

with the 60859 centerbolt E heads it says to use non-self aligning rockers
is there any particular rocker to use?
will they fit under the stock valve covers?
i ordered the crane gold aluminum rockers
#10759-16

i want to make sure i have enough clearance inside
or if i need to replace the rockers, what ones fit with the AC and alternator?

Ihave a 1987 iroc tpi 350 with 1.6 full roller rockers i did have to get taller valve covers but they did clear everything.the a/c compressor was a close fit but not enuogh to keep you from using it.Atleast un my car.goodluck

i think 87 was pre-sepentine belt system correct?
not sure if it really matters or not

Crane says those rockers are supposed to clear the centerbolt valve covers, meaning they are supposed to be a narrow design
but when i opened the box, they look like any other rocker arm, meaning big

i was also looking at these proforms black crinkle covers
141-131

i think that could spark up the engine compartment
i want to avoid chrome ones so they don't pit and rust up

besides, a heck of alot easier to install new valve covers and gaskets then to clean the older ones up.

valve covers

Yes mine is the v-belt.not sure if it is diff from yours.Also i dont like chrome very much either,I got the black crinckle finish and i am very happy with them and the way they looknext to polished alluminum , coated headers and or alluminum heads.

I run 1.6 ratio roller rockers, they are not specially made for centerbolt covers or anything, and I use them with "short" style aluminum / ball milled valve covers.

for the record, i use the factory centerbolt valve covers with crane gold self-aligning roller rockers. no problems in five years!!!(knock on wood)...lol

I installed crane 1:6RR on my car. I used the stock style valve cover and all I had to do was remove afew pieces of metal that were spot welded on the inside of the cover. took 5 mins

I run the Crane Gold race rollers and they are narrow body rockers that fit under the stock valve covers with no mods...Hope that helps.

I thought the only differance between self aligning roller rockers and non self aligning is that the self aligning rocker do not require guide plates. I would like to know for sure myself

I was under the impression that another difference was that the aftermarket centerbolt rocker guided arms where narrower at the rocker body trunnion (in addition to having the guided roller tip), and that the normal perimeter-bolt non-guided rocker arms were a bit wider (fatter) at the trunnion, and usually this extra width was due to the snap-ring that retained the rocker body on the trunnion roller bearing. This is just from looking at the photos of the narrow-body rocker arms, compared to the normal ones in my hand. just my own observation.

i was sick this past weekend and didn't get a chance to start working yet
i'll keep everyone updated.

i did get the proform black valve covers, and they look superb
i do plan to use the stock ones, but it's up to her when we start working on it.

I also have the thicker felpro gaskets as well, hope the valve cover bolts still fit

Maybe mine was just a freak case but Im using regular perimeter bolt style rockers with centerbolt valve covers. I didnt have any clearance issues and im even using a short valve cover...
