sneaky fast with an L98
My buddie has an 89 l98 z28, the car has 128k on it. We recently completed tunin it and adding what we think is a great bang for the buck engine build (well not really a build, more of a top end swap). We took the top end off of the l98 and sent the upper plenum out to be ported and matched to a set of TPIS big tube runners (most people cant even tell there after market runners unless they are familiar with tpi). we used an edelbrock lower intake that mates up to high lift vortec heads. we also added some Comp Cams 1.6 rockers. other than that the car has edelbrock headers and after cat exhaust. Make no mistake this car looks very colse to stock with the exception of the headers (take peoples eyes away from the TPIS runners). we will spend a day at the strip soon to test the system and see what kind of timing and fuel curves it likes. so considering the skill it takes to do this, most any weekend wrench can do this and not blow his/her budget. We can already tell that this system is killer, judging by the seat of the pants feel and the gargantuan burnouts I would say this adds 45% (on the low side) more power to the motor (in good health of course) and costs close to what a good set of AFR's do. Let me know what you guys think!

I'm in the mission valley area, Sometimes I go the the camaro club car shows. The big one is at the embacadaro (Bayside of the convention center) in September. Trying to get my car ready for that. It's alway cool to know that there is interest locally.

yea a cam would help some, but if you look at the stock cams lift with the 1.6 rockers it actually adds up pretty nice (454/473 lift), and with unprted vortec 885 heads that puts you right in the meat of the flow capabilities. Stock vortec heads flow best with realativily mild cams (at .400 lift they flow 227/140, at .500 lift they flow 239/147). Also the idle would not be affected which makes the set up that much more steath (no ruff cam idle). The same set up will be going on my 88 formula while in storage this winterbut with a little work oon the exhaust ports and yes a cam.
