HP Guesstimate
Ok I was just wondering roughly what kind of power I'm laying down (no dyno avaliability at this time) 305 TPI formerly LB9 cam, now 305 TPI with aluminum L98 heads, 1.6 roller rockers, LT4 hotcam, headers with 1 5/8 primaries, full 2.5 inch exhaust to flowmaster 80series, gutted all AIR and cat, k&n's.
Thanks.
Thanks.

260hp and 320 tq? Its too hard to really guess. That would be about mine though. May be higher, but I doubt it would be lower than what I guessed.

I always go by crank, since it's just a bigger number to brag about, lol. But honestly, it's just easier to estimate because you aren't dealing with drivetrain power loss.

What are the specs on the LT4 cam compared to an LT1 with 1.6 rockers? I have the same motor with ported 081 heads, LT1 cam, 1.6 rockers, ported plenum and intake base, stock runners, full exhaust, afpr set at 47psi etc...
260 is good for what 1/4 times, mid 13's?

the LT4 hotcam is alot bigger than a LT1 cam with 1.6's .
the setup in my sig got me 251/318 rwhp rwtq untunned. Just something to help guestimate

I don't mean to steal the thread but I've never got a clean answer from ppl regarding my setup. I know it's nothing to brag about, but I mean it's still only a 305.
Brisk, you're car sounds pretty mean. What are the specs on the Vette heads? How does those Sportlines feel with the GR-2s? I have the same stuff just not installed yet.

CC89Formula; yup, your springs
Steve383; LT4 cam specs are .525" lift with 1.6rr, with a 219intake/228exhaust duration @ .050 and 112 lobe seperation. no idea what some of that acutally means, just reading it direct from the cam card.
91greenbird - intake mods are planned for next season, gotta take it one step at a time. this has easily been the largest 'motor' project I've tackled on my own so I didn't want to get too crazy, get lost, and have to tow it to someone to straighten out my mess. I think I did a pretty good job (so far)
madmax - the car so far seems to run good and idle ok with this cam.. the stock chip still has alot to learn and reprogram before it is even near 'good'. the idle is low and very very lumpy.. pushing in the clutch while deaccelerating will make it stall if your not careful and watching the rpms. the engine accelerates and deaccelerates much quicker then it used to, and so far seems to perform better. I'm not shocked and I still want more power, but tomorrow will officially be the first road test now that everything seems to be working 100% A good tune is in order next... I've already got blank chips, zif socket and moates adapter here and a pocket programmer is on order.. I've got a great tuner and friend whos going to guide me along and help me learn, I can't wait!
Steve383 - ya my car is pretty mean, ugly and disgusting.. lol. Its a great car for me so far, but I'm just getting started as far as plans go. I'm not wealthy so my plan is more of a ten year stretch. The vette heads are stock aluminum L98 heads with 58cc combustions chambers instead of the 64cc ones from the 081's, supposed to be a great set of heads for a 305 to bump up power and combustion, not to mention both these heads weigh less then one of my stock 081's. I mildly (and I mean barely) ported these at home with a dremel, more like cleaned out the rough stuff and smoothened it out some. I bought and installed the LT4 hotcam kit which included new locks, springs, retainers, etc onto the heads... so anyone reading I've got a great set of LT4 hotcam springs for sale which I've bought from CC89Formula above.
I like the sportlines, put the car right where I wanted it and the ride quality is still very good... but not nearly velvety smooth, but these cars never were. The progressive rate is great, keeps everyday driving bumps and aches to a minimum.. the GR-2's seem to perform well, no complaints but after getting bashed so hard on these boards I'm just going to have to try some Koni yellows or reds. Install the stuff, you'll like it.. ground clearance isn't that bad but you do have to be careful around unusual or steep inclines and large holes of bumps.
So now for MORE POWER.. what do you guys recommend next? I was thinking of larger runners and porting the plennum, is that a good start, or....?
whew.. so thats about it

intake
tpis sells the bigmouth intake which is a edelbrock one ported, then you could get some slp runners and send your new slp runners and plenum to Products and they'll port your plenum and your slp runners to match. then like i said you'll have some big gains and a 302 killing 305

so how much of a gain would I get with that.. the prices add up fast!! $400 for a big mouth intake, $300 for slp's, another $400 for porting etc..
... is that for killing a stocker 302?

with all that you should be able to beat a stock 5.0 mustang lol the fastest all stock 5.0 i seen ran a 13.9 and that was a lx notchback 5spd. Yes it is pricey for the tpi stuff or you could just get holley stealth ram for about $600 but i heard it could be overkill on a 305 and will be bad street car because you'll lose so much low end power.

well at the moment my buddy has a '89 GT 'vert with full bolt-ons (like every damned thing), intake, heads, gears, throttle body, full exhaust, etc and we're neck and neck.. thats before my recent upgrades of heads, cam, and headers.. but he just bought a t-top '88 fox body and a drop in 400hp engine from ebay.. so I want to at least be competitive, but I'd really like to be able to smoke his butt!
Steve383 - hows that SLP cold air induction?? Did you notice a difference other then the sound it makes when you romp on the fuel.. pricey? And did you have the stock dual tpi intake snorkle? Seems like a pretty decent ram air setup to begin with... ??

I don't have an SLP intake setup. I made my own actually (which is getting more extensive as I'm cutting the plate where the charcoal canister sits so I can use the fog light hole on that side as a ram air inlet). It's just a stock firebird boot off the TB with an air foil, 90 degree bend into a 3" tube, the MAF, than another piece of tube that goes to the K&N. I swear man, once I put that air foil on, it sounds like a supercharger now
Yeah I was going to get Bilsteins when I was looking around for Shocks and Struts but the car will barely see the track and it will/might get to see the strip a few times a year so I thought, whats the point in spending $600 on a set of shocks/struts when I can get the GR-2's for less than half that, so obviously you know what I chose. I've heard both good things and bad things about them but I won't know until they are on my car. I've beaten a few late model fox bodies with my 305 last summer, one including a 5.0 with exhaust. It felt good as I was missing a bolt on my passenger exhaust manifold and had a nasty leak. But with the new mods I'm hoping to see the 13 mark. Should be a real nice conversation piece in the parking lots. "What are yah runnin'?" - "Oh just a lil 305"
