Before spending a boatload of money on a new maf try changing the relays on the firewall. Unless the maf itself has been physically damaged in some way, new relays will solve most maf problems.

I was about to replace my MAF sensor, but after reading this thread I replaced my relays first. Solved my problem and saved me some $$$.

Connect a voltmeter to the MAF output with everything connected and hte engien idlng. The MAF should generate about an 800mV signal. If so, the MAF is probably functioning correctly.

What diagnosis/problems/error codes lead you to believe the MAF is a problem?

^^cohan, Vader is right on target when asking you what would cause you to think that there is a MAF malfunction. Any error codes? Any surging? What are the symptoms? The wiring on just about every connector on my 86's original harness looks fried as well, but it doesn't automatically mean that the sensors are shot along with it...

^^jamon8, you're right. He can re-use the original harness' connector, while replacing the terminals, along with some additional wiring, that can be purchased either in NAPA, Pep Boys, and even Home Depot...
