TPI Swap Getting Frustrating

Hey, I'm Sean and I'm new to thirdgen.org and I need some help with my swap. I went down to a shop down here in MO one day with a friend of mine and the shop owner had a 92 RS sitting in his garage. I instantly fell in love with the car and asked him how much, and made a down payment the next day. Heres some history of the car before I came upon it. The 305 TBI that was originally in the RS had started knocking, so the owner found an 87 Iroc that had been totaled and was being parted out. The motor had around 20K miles on it. So he swapped the motor, tranny, and had a friend take care of the wiring. This guy is strictly a body man, and basically has no clue when it comes to wiring or motors, so its been difficult trying to get answers from him. Now I have tried everything to get this car running, but honestly I think he and whoever did the wiring on this just hacked it up beyond anything workable. I'm in the process of getting the car towed to my house so he doesnt mess with anything else, the only way the motor will even turn over is by crossing the starter with a screwdriver, then gas has to be shot into the TB for it to actually start. I'm getting very frustrated and I'm kinda at a loss as to what to do. I'm ordering a Painless Harness Part#60102 and just completely pulling the hacked harness and replacing it to take care of the wiring issue, but I'm not sure if that will take care of my motor problems. I JUST NEED TO GET MY BABY RUNNIN AND IM IN DESPERATE NEED OF YOUR HELP!!! Thank you for any help at all, it wil be greatly appreciated!!!

Why not see if you can find a good TPI harness in the Part For Sale section on this board instead of adding the work that's needed to make the Painless harness work?

Its just a plug and play deal into the stock ECU. All thats needed is the harness.

I would if the owner of the shop would have used his head and not completely disemboweled every wire possible off the old harness.

Butchering the wire harness makes it a much more difficult job. See to much of that at Don's shop. What is sometimes an easy conversion(if you know what you are doing) becomes almost impossible when the wiring is screwed up.

Yea its been really difficult, Im really wantin to get her runnin before school starts up again. I was afraid I was gonna break the light switch by pullin it but I guess Ill just go for it lol. I got the old harness pulled out last night and the Painless one should be here any second, Im really excited to get it in. I found a ton of random wires to nothing that were just thrown under the carpets and stuff by the drivers and passenger side doors. This is my first car and its really important to me that everything gets done the right way, seeing as it was done the complete opposite before, thanks for your help guys!! Any pointers would be awesome!!!

to get the **** off.
look for a small slot on the base of the **** where it goes on the shaft, take a small screw driver or a small pick & put the tip in the slot away from the **** & then pull the tip of the screw driver in the same direction like you are going to turn the lights on, if you do it right the **** will slip right off.

Painless Wiring says they should be:

I'm so confused!!! Is this just some random computer from god knows where? Or am I just being dumb and it will work? If anyone has any answers at all, it would be so greatly appreciated

Save yourself the time and headache. IF I were you I'll do:
  1. Go to junk yard and pick up an ECM (car computer). the part number is 1227730. you can find this ECM in many early 90's V6 General Motor cars (Sunfire, Berlinetta).
  2. It is very difficult to find wiring harness for 90-92 TPI, so you can go to the junk yard and pick up harness out of 90-92 V8 RS camaro
  3. Go to your GM dealer and order Memcal part number 16151348. you can also buy it from TPI parts, and ask them to disabe VAT (security system)
  4. follow this thread to do your wirring conversion https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...ml#post1616838
You can do all that for less than $250.
Good luck, Ivan

you ECM # 1226870 is for 85 Camaro
----------
Edit:
By the way, I think the guy lied to you about the motor and tranny. You most likely have 5.0L 305 out of an 85 Camaro
