Engine combo ideas

Hey folks, I haven't been on this site for probably 2 years, as I haven’t been with my car for that long. So bear with me if stuff changed in that time. Anyway I'm building my 350 again, and I’d like to get some opinions.

Current combo:
L98 block, .030" bored, standard stroke, 10:1
Iron L98 heads, stock
ZZ4 cam
SLP headers
Stock TPI manifold
AS&M runners
stock injectors
custom PROM
700r4
stock converter
3.27 9 bolt

There are a bunch of things I’m considering. I am definitely getting an aftermarket manifold, probably Accel/Lingenfelter. It will also get re-tuned for whichever combo I go with

Option 1: everything above plus trickflow 195 heads, 64cc, something like 219/223 .480"/.510" cam

Option 2: everything above plus only trickflow 195 heads, 64cc

Option 3: just add the intake manifold and call it a day

1. Any opinions on head or cam choice?

2. Do you think I will need bigger injectors with any of the above combos?

A couple of things to note:
- I will not part with TPI, I know I am giving up top end power by not going to HSR, I don’t' care
- the converter, trans, and rear will not change
- I don't want to give up too much low end torque, comment on largish heads/cam

Also, did the BBK intake ever get released?

Thanks for the help guys!
JP

afpr - already done

port plenum - already done

heads - i don't really have the time or desire to play around with the stock heads. They will either remain stock or i will buy the trickflows

cam - suggestions?

I pretty much have the same combo (except I run an LT1 cam with 1.6's and don't have the AS&M runners) What do you think my et's be? Anyway, my new setup will have me running the LT1 intake which has been ported out a little, Edelbrock Performer/RPM heads and the LT4 hotcam. The reason I'm using the hotcam is because I got it for free. Might change my mind and go with something a little bigger. For what I'd get with just those parts would be amazing!

I was thinking about the trickflows awhile back. They are a decent head, but for the money the E-Heads take the cake. Most people don't use them or dislike them for some reason, But one of my friends at work does Tractor pulling and uses a set of the Vic Jr. heads on that 383 monster and it makes tons of power and he loves the heads. Used everything from Dart to AFR's and he's sticking with the E-Heads. They are the best bang for the buck if you ask me.

Steve thanks for the reply.

My current combo ran a best of 14.0 @ eirther 97 or 99mph, i don't remember which, its been 2 years, with 2.00 60' time. This is all while burning a lot of oil. That is why i'm building it again. I would imagine it would run 13.7ish without burning oil. I wouldn't be suprised if you were in the 13s.

I must admit that i don't know a whole lot about the edelbrock heads, except not that many people run them.

Thanks
John

Yeah that's what I gather too. Most people see them as the cheap version but in reality, they kinda are. Like I said, they are the best bang for you're buck. The flow numbers are high, they come with 2.02/1.60 valves, they are aluminum, what else do you want? lol! I won't be getting these till next year though as I just had my motor built. Brand new shortblocks arn't cheap.

I would think I'd be in the 13's somewhere, give it high to mid. My runners are killing me though. And new ones are so expensive it's not really worth my money as I'm not keeping the TPI. I had a hookup for some Edelbrock ones but that fell through. What other mods do you suggest I do? My setup is in my sig.
