Uhmm..Blown Head Gasket???

Hi everyone--

Well, its time to pull the tarp off an 87 IROC I decided to keep and play with over the summer..Anyway, the last time it was driven was around August before I headed off out of town to a new job..I went to start it up this morning (kicked over with no problem)...However, water literally poured from the tail pipes like a faucet..I am thinking head gasket but wanted you guys opinions and ideas too before I call a mechanic...Water was very rusty and nasty looking...Also, it is parked on a slope too..Just trying to give some facts..Let me know what you think..Ryan

how long did water "pour" out of the pipes. It was probably just condensation being pushed out of the exhaust....

Just went out and started it again...No drop in coolant from radiator and oil looks clean as a whistle...Let it idle for 15 minutes or so and took it out for a spin with no problems (stumbled a little bit but I do know that some of my previous stumbles are from the fuel pump being on the fritz)...Speaking of which, guess what I will be working on for BLACK FRIDAY?? I am going to try the hole in the hatch trick..Later..Ryan

I was planning on do the fuel pump replacement where you cut a hole in the hatch, making it easier to access..I know there are pro's and con's but i am trying to take the easy way out I guess..However, hopefully that will be a last resort as I want to check all the relays, grounds, etc first. Since the cooling fans aren't coming on now, I need to by a voltometer and check for those gremlins as well...Ahhhh...The fun of a "project car" begins..Ryan

i did the cut a hole method once many years ago, and its actually easier to just drop the rear. I can get the rear completely unbolted and out from under the car in less then a hour and a half. This is by myself, no air tools, in my driveway. Now, to do a fuel pump, it doesnt need to come completely out so that saves even more time.

Don't cut the hole, its not worth it. do it the right way
