88 GTA 305 Starting / running issues.

All,

I tried a search, but for some reson searching is not working for me.

My buddy has an 88 GTA 5.0TPI, and as he was driving today, waiting at a light, the car shut off totally and would not restart. It had been running fine for over a year. So we pushed it into a parking lot and tried to troubleshoot it. We found that the car was apparently not getting any spark. It turns over and over fine, I tried starter fluid... didnt start. I treid taking the plug out of the motor, and grounding it to see of any sparking, didnt see any. We then replaced the coil, and still no spark.

Any help on getting this issue resolved would be great, as we hav eno clue what could be causing it to not run at this time, and it is his only form of transportation.

Thanks in advance.

-Steve

Check the wiring at the coil and distributer for any cuts. maybe not getting proper current.

Start the process of elimination.

the day of the issue, we checked the wiring as best as we could.l Couldnt find any issues at the time.. all wireing looked good.

I dont think that a wire shorted would make the car just shut off randomly all of a sudden, and keep it from running.. which is what happened essentially.

I thought maybe the computer gone bad.. but i dunno. It just seems wierd that he'd be driving and running at a light, then all of a sudden have nothing.. ya know?

Just replace it, Cant hurt

Its the module under the distributor that sends a signal to have spark More or less, When they get hot/old they tend to fail

replaced ignition module as stated by 87TurboGN and it ran fine with origional computer.

Odd how it just all of a sudden went out. Oh well. It works well now though so thats good.
