fuel gets to rail, but not to schrader valve

i'm not sure what year car my motor came out of, but it's a maf system. it has worked fine until this weekend. i couldn't get it to start, so i checked my plugs and they were pretty nasty looking, so i changed those and the fuel filter. still no help so i kept going and found that my stock nissan fuel pump was no longer working, so i installed the inline pump i've been putting off installing for a couple months. now i've got fuel going all the way to the rail, but absolutely nothing on the return side, and nothing at that schrader valve on the rail. i guess it's not going past the FPR? if that went bad would it stop fuel from flowing completely?

I would take the top off the fpr and look at it. Most likely thats your problem. You can get a rebuild kit for the fpr at any local parts store or a complete fpr from gm.

thanks, i'll look at that. also, since i'm gonna be taking it out either way, should i go ahead an get an adjustable regulator? i don't plan on doing very many performance mods since the 305 is enough power for a small truck, but i've seen adjustable regulators mentioned time and again on here. if i should get one, which one should i get? the mallory one is pretty cheap, but i saw ALOT of threads about the mallory regulators for the carbed cars on here when i searched for mallory.....are the mallory regulators junk?

I think your lines are on the pump backwards.

if the fuel pump is in the right fuel line, the FPR is after the pressure tap & you should be getting fuel from it.

so the fuel goes through the fuel rail BEFORE it goes to the regulator? that would be the top fitting on the fuel rail instead of the bottom?

Yup, double check those lines.
IIRC the bottom goes to the rail and the top one comes out of the regulator.
The inlet is NOT the one that has the tube running to the back of the rails.
That would be the return line outlet.

that is exactly what the problem was, thanks for the help guys! the new fuel pump is alot better than the stock one on my truck too. it barely had enough pressure to run and it starts without hesitation now.

Don't feel bad. There was a reason I knew what it was
