Engine Build Questions
Hello Everyone-
Been searching the forums for a while and it seems like there's alot of knowledge to be had at this site!
Anyway, I just picked up a very clean 91 Z28 350 due to the fact that it had a severe rod knock (or wrist pin I dont know right now). I'm pulling the engine this weekend, and probably building up a short block in the next week or two. Right now funds are such that I cant afford an all out build like I want, so stock intake and heads are gonna have to stay I think.
My question is this: I want to have it prepped for a nice future set of heads and and better intake by putting in an LT4 Hot cam. Obviously not an optimal situation, but will it be able to run and drive with this? or will it be a useless slug with a confused ECM? I've only got shy of a grand to play with in order to get her up and running, so if you guys have any other suggestions I'd really like to hear them.
Thanks alot!

Funny - someone else just asked that same question a couple days ago...

Given what you're trying to do, I'm thinking that one of the best things you could do is to clean up those heads as much as possible - a bit of work on the short-side radius & around the valve seat (don't actually touch the seat!) should provide noticeable gains. Would probably also help if you were able to taper the "bulge" where the valve stem comes through the passage as well.
I don't remember the specs for that cam off-hand, but IIRC, there are a few people around here who are running that cam with a factory ECM, it just needs some tuning.. Others here can give more specific info on that.
Good luck!
