TBI to TPI
I have a 95 4x4 chev and the TBI is not cutting it for me anymore and would like to go TPI . For starters can the ECM ( 16197427 ) (BJYL ) be modded so it can run TPI .

check www.tbichips.com I think he talks about it some on there. He did some kind of similar swap or do a search on here i know its been covered and i think some of the ecms are compatible but not sure.I`m wanting to swap my old 305 tpi into my truck which has a turd of a4.3 tbi JUST CHECKED MYSELF.I dont think they are.I think some of the v-6 and v-8 ecm`s are compatible but not to the tpi. This was a quick check so check our tech articles or our engine swap board.i know its coverd in one or both of those.

The PCM HAS been used to run TPI, search the DIY Prom board for Haulin's post when he converted his son's 1994 305 to TPI.
On the other hand a stockish TBI setup can feed 300+ HP at the crankshaft and produce plenty of torque, especially OFF-IDLE where the TPI won't make as much torque. One of my 350 builds put down 279 RWHP/340 RWTQ with an un-touched throttle body(big block injectors) and stock GM intake manifold.
This was playing around with a cold TBI engine the other morning.

[QUOTE=Fast355;3255137]For starters, I am not a huge fan of TBI to TPI on a stockish engine. It is just not worth the money spent for the gains given.

For starters, I am not a huge fan of TBI to TPI on a stockish engine. It is just not worth the money spent for the gains given. You are better off with headers, appropriately sized exhaust, a mild cam, and a torque converter upgrade, along with the supplemental tuning.

1. When you say untouched throttle body, are you saying it was a 305 throttle body, or it was a 454 throttle body that you didnt mess with?
2. WHat heads were you using to get 279hp. That's about where Im aiming at with a build I'm planning, right around 300... Something reasonable, fuel efficient, and streetable.

The TBI motor i currently have does have Vortec heads with the matching intake along with modded Tbi and 90 lb injectors , cam , headers , tuned chip which took a year to fine tune . Yes i did see the article from Haulin A$$ and that is what i was looking for after searching till my eyes bugged out . From what i have read the TPI set-up is right up my alley for torque and also looks impressive .
