Stock airbox pics ?
Hi guys,
When i bought my car it didnt even have that on, not even an aftermarket airfilter, so i stuck a big hose on with a KnN airfilter on the end, works fine but looks a bit odd, here is what im talking about,

Ive bought a used airbox though and today i was trying it out but where does the MAF sensor go ? is this box supposed to open up for it to go inside ? or does it mount outside of the box

And when i put it on the car it doesnt sit flush along the radiator, is it just supposed to sit on the lip as it does ?

Re: Stock airbox pics ?
your missing the 2nd section of the air box where the filter sits i would stick to the one u made the factory air box is very restrictive and when I stop being lazy i am going to make something like yours but with metal from an exhaust shop

ive got the other piece too, oh well, i might just try and make a better one then. Do you have to make a support for making your own intake, mine is literally supported by nothing, it just lies across the radiator hose

There should be a support bracket that bolts into two of the upper radiator shroud. Also, that stock airbox flows poorly, just fab something up to replace that flexible piping that was there when you got it.

Yes, there's a support bracket for that long box.
One end of the MAF fits onto the bottom of that long box, and the other end fits onto the air filter can. Then the can itself has a flattish, square box on top of it where the air enters.
But when it's all assembled, the air can bolted down like it's supposed to be, and the long box connected to the throttle body via the ductwork, everything in between should fit together tightly enough that you'd be ok without that bracket, if you don't happen to have it.
But unless you just wanna stay stock for stock's sake, then I agree that you'd be much better off changing the intake because it's not a good one. Either fab-up your own air intake or search for one from an '88 or later model, much better than the '87 and earlier intakes. It uses a can similar to the '87 system, but the rest of it(the ducting) is similar in to the SLP cold air intake.
But the '88 can is different than the '87 can. The '87 design breathes from the inside out, whereas the '88 design breathes from the outside in(like a normal air intake should).
