engine shutting off problem

engine shutting off problem
i'v got an 85 iroc-z with tpi and the engine will cut off after i'v been driving on the highway for a while and come to a stop but stop and go is fine. any ideas?

This actually happens to me too. Its only happended a handful of times and not enough for me to notice a pattern. Once I was in line at the track and it cut off

I would think it was some sort of safety cut off when the engine gets too hot (since I was in line for a while) but I also remember that when my water pump was going, the engine temp. got to redline and it still didn't shut off (I turned it off and waited half and hour before I drove the rest of the half-mile home)..so I'm not sure why the cut off, I wonder if anyone else has this issue...

It hasn't happened to me recently, but it does happen while I stop. Never while driving...

Be more specific.
A coughing/sputtering type stall will more than likely be fuel.
A clean cut out/stall tends to be spark.
Bad injectors overheating the driver will cause intermittent shut down.
Bad cylinder head grds(pass side)
Bad pickup coil or module.
Weak or dying fuel pump.
Stuck open egr.
