too much vacuum

what creats too much vacuum, my car started hissing real bad from the hole in the airfoil. now im getting a code thats saying that i have too much vacuum to the MAP. then yesturday when i went to drive it, it was doing fine then all of a sudden it wont do anything other than idle, if i hit the throttle it pukes and wants to die.

1990 formula 350

thanks

Re: too much vacuum

"Too much vacuum" is probably a bad MAP sensor.

Re: too much vacuum

a bad map sensor can create too much vacuum? i dont believe that it just a bad reading, i believe there really IS too much vacuum, because i can hear air hissing like crazy through the hole in the bottom of the airfoil where as it didnt before.

i do have another MAP do ill try that and see what happens.

ill keep ya posted.

Re: too much vacuum

What the code is telling you is that either there's more than 30" of mercury of vacuum, or that the vacuum doesn't change when the throttle is opened. Both of those are physically impossible, so its mostly likely a bad sensor.

It would help to know what kind of engine this is.

Re: too much vacuum

if the bottom hole in the airfoil is for the IAC than wouldnt it stand to reason that if its hissing very bad from the whole then the iac is stuck or something and sucking in too much air.

______*update*______
it does not puke and die, when giving more throttle anymore that was a seperate issue, TPS harness came off.

Re: too much vacuum

If the IAC was malfunctioning, then your idle speed would be affected.

Code 15 is a CTS error, not a MAP error.

Re: too much vacuum

i thought it 2 a cts and i found a 2 plug harness that comes out with the iac plug and tps plug thats not plugged in. i am in the process of finding the tps i think its unplugged. any input onits whereabouts? as i said i just got the car and not too familiar with where everything is yet.

would it be sucking in way too much air if the egr is stuck half open?

Re: too much vacuum

The TPS is on the throttle body.

If it idles properly, it's not sucking in too much air.
