Help, IAC question

searched, no luck... my question is, when the IAC is removed (91 350 map car) should the pintle move at all.. I see that cone part with the rod and little spring and that wont move at all.. maybe 1/64" It is frozen in position.. is that how itssupposed to be or should it move when you press on the cone shaped part? Never touched an IAC before, I can do a cam swap with my eyes closed, but dont know what this little thing is supposed to do!

Re: Help, IAC question

The pintle (cone part) will move when the ECM sends phased pulses to the stepper coils of the IAC motor. You can also rock the pintle back and forth while gently pulling outward and it will eventually work its way out of the rack gears in the stepper motor. It takes about two minutes to work it out completely. It can be cleaned, lightly lubricated, then reassembled in the same manner.
