Anyone using comp cam #08-302-8
I have the cam, it's got decent specs
210/220 dur 480/480 lift 112 lobe spec.
My motor doesn't pull on the top end. It is freshly rebuilt. I ran it on a gtech and at the elevation I was at, I calculated the rwhp @ 235. High 14's is all I can get @ 95mph.( gtech reads high, more like 92-93mph) My tach may be out but but the motor isn't making power over 5000rpm based on a few runs.
I'm wondering if I got a lame cam cuz I'm running out of things to change.
355 balanced, kb 10:1, comp cam, 983 springs, comp 1.52rr's, mildly ported 083 heads, edlebrock intake, accell runners, ported plenum, 52 mm tb, svo 24lbs injectors, afr, map, headers, dual exhaust ( no cats) 700r4 with 2200 stall, 3.42 posi. custom tuned. vehicle weight with driver 3650lbs.

Your combo is quite similar to my old TPI setup. I had the ZZ-4 cam (208/221), SDPC intake, AS&M runners, 2600 stall, 3.23 posi. I thought those parts would extend my rpm range by at least a few hundred, but it still felt like it hit the *wall* at just over 5000 rpm. This is a function of the restrictive TPI, not the cam. That's why I have a different intake now.
Having said that, I still ran an easy 13.4 @ 104.5 on my g-tech with a bad 60'. What elevation are you at? You may have some other mech problem. Do you burn your own chips?

If I run at home it will run a 14.80. That is @2500 ft. I had a professional tune it. It run good with the exception of some stop light issues. I have a old car craft (oct 2001) that features a budget 12 sec camaro, the combo is similar to my with the addition of the zz9 cam with 1.6 rockers and 2.00/1.56 valves. The car run a 12.30 with 5600 rpm shifts ( most likely corrected), regardless I am not even close to running those numbers.
I have this drive line in a 94 S10.

Re: Anyone using comp cam #08-302-8
I had that cam in my 302 tpi. 9.2 to 1, 4.10 gears, corvette convertor, sr torquer heads, tes headers, roller rockers and ported runners & base. I had power to 6200 rpm. The short stroke and 5.95 rods helped. I only got 12 inches of vacuum at 550rpm. It had to cruise at 2500rpm on the highway. I had to bump the idle to 800rpm to have good brakes. The car needed 4.30s. I had the 300-8 in my 350 with center bolt heads and tes headers. It would hit a wall at 5000rpm. I had 19 inches of vacuum and it would idle at 450 if i wanted to. I picked the 302-8 because the 300-8 was too small. I thought I would loose 3-4 inches of vacuum not 7. You need to build the engine around the intake or change intakes. I made the engine smaller and used longer rods to help the air flow. 350 and 383 have to capitalize on bottom end torque. Chevy should of put the tpi in trucks and vans. stealth ram is what you need.

I bought the intake, runners and plenum used, the guy that had them ran a stock bottem end with a zz4 cam and holleymax heads. His car ran 13.3 @108mph on street tires.

the 302 cam looks pretty tame.. lift numbers arent real big and the duration is somewhat low. i think it will run well in a TPI car, even untuned but still a mild cam. it wont pull much over 4500-5000rpms. its the TPI system. that cam in a stealth ram or miniram/LT1 style would pull to 5500 easy

You may have looked at this already, but if your timing is advanced too much you could be riding the knock sensor. Then the ECM could be pulling so much timing that you're left with less than you originally had.

seems pretty optimistic for that combination...mph wise..but the ET i could possibly see in the right car setup..but a 13.3 is still pretty darn good for a ZZ4 cammed car.
