Speed density and MAF

I want to change my MAF to MAP soon. But I want to get a new wiring harness altogether. I looked at Speed an Performance but they are really expensive. Does anyone else make new harnesses BESIDES Painless? Also will my 88 computer work with MAP if I get a custom prom or do I have to get a new computer? Is the knock sensor different betwee years? I know it is different between 350 and 305.

TPIS and Howell can modify your existing MAF harness to work w/ the MAP ECM and sensors for less $ than buying a whole new one. TPIS is www.tpis.com, Howell is www.howell-efi.com if you're interested.

You'll need to change ECMs and CALPAKs, the 1227165 ECM your MAF system uses won't work. You need a 1227730 ECM (90-92 F-body or 87-88 Beretta) and a CALPAK from a 90-92 F-body.

Check http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/ecm_swap_730/ for more info on swapping MAF->MAP.

Depending on the cost you may want to look at a replacement system. I just bought the Haltech unit and it only took the aditon of three wires at the computer. It is a MAP system but you can tune it (that's great). You also have the option of putting the MAF back on and plugging up the old computer.
I think the total package cost me $600.

WHY??WHY??WHY??would you do such a thing
the MAF system is much better at accepting MODs
TPIS has donE tests, and they are posted in their INSIDERS HINTS BOOK, THE MORE MODS YOU DO THE MORE HORSES YOU GET FROM THE MAF SYSTEM
IF IT IS POSSIBLE FOR YOU, STAY WITH THE MAF SYSTEM, OR AT LEAST LOOK INTO THE PERFORMANCE DIFFERANCES BEYOND THE FACTORY HP RATINGS

Yes you are right mostly but when you have a minirammed 396 small block the MAF becomes a choking point in the intake. I dont think my engine will appreciate breathing through a straw like it is now.

My gosh look at all the propaganda. The speed density systems handle mods just fine. I'm still using a stock 305 5-speed chip in my 350, with cam and heads, and its working perfectly.

Where in the TPIS book is that chart? I dont remember seeing it.
