383 question

I recently purchased a Scat 383 stroker crank and a set of 6.0" rods to put in the GTA this winter. Here lies the problem: I went to www.scatcrankshafts.com ,I noticed that they sell 2 different cranks for the 1 piece seal motors. The first is for 5.7 rods & externally balanced(the one I bought). The second is for 6.0" rods & internally balanced.
Can I still use the 6.0" rods and just have my machinist take care of the balancing?
I have a friend who has 6.0" rods in a 400 sb with the stock crank and external balancing,so I don't know why I couldn't do the same thing unless there is some physical reason I am missing.
What do you guys think? I would hate to buy another crank or set of rods.

your fine. An internally balanced crank is a little more expensive, and some people do this so they can use a 350 balancer, and try and hide the fact it is a stroker motor. I actually first externally balanced my 383 motor, but I eventually put the motor in a racing bracket where strokers were...illegeal..Well, I internally balanced the motor to give it that good ol 350 look..

I would just give the machine shop your whole rotating assembly and have them balance everything as a whole. Have them size the rods and give them the flywheel, and balancer, and crank to balance it all together.

Thanks Kevin,I realy appreciate it.I'm relieved that I don't have to sell my stuff and buy more!
Would like your opinion on one other thing also.
My car has the speed density system,I had the chip custom burnt by PR to work with my heads and cam, etc. If I use the same cam & heads with the 383,do you think I can get by without having to get a new chip burnt?I only have the fuel pressure set at 42 psi & it still runs a little on the rich side.
Also I posted my rods for sale in the classifieds yesterday, can you please delete the ad.

You know what Kwikgta..........I went and looked at what you were saying about their website....and I think you need to call them up on Monday to be sure.. I used a GM crank. I know with these, different size rods will work no problem, but maybe their SCAT cranks are different. I am pretty sure you will have no problems, but call them to be sure.

Kevin I talked to Scat and they said that I will have to add a lot of heavy metal to the crank in order to internally balance it with 6.0" rods.I think I will just sell it and get the crank that is for an internally balanced 383 with 6.0" rods.
