I was wondering what the top speed for a 1988 GTA with a 350 TPI was. I read that teh Iroc was 149. Do any of you know if it is different.

lets say I lost my speed limiter, what would my LO3 top out at? and if I converted to TPI what would I push?

 

The GTA should run around 148 to 150 or so mph.

So I must have been trapped in the good old 700R4 overdrive trap. YOu know how it won't shift at full throttle. I was trying to chase down my friend with a 65 vette and I got up to 114 and my car was just about redlining so I figured I was in third so i tried to let off a little but not to much so that i would get smoked even more than i was. Maybe if i got off the throttle a little bit more it would have shiffted. Here is my question. Is it possible for a gta (88) 350 to be doing 114 mile per hour in 3rd.

Third in my car goes to 120 (redline). FWIW, I've taken my car to 140 bone stock...150 would probably be possible during the day (no pop-up lights) w/ a *long* stretch of road.

this reminds me of something funny. When I got the 305 in my IROC modded-up a while back, I went and got one of my friends to drive my formula for a little "test" He was amazed how I pulled him around 120. I didn't tell him about the 700r4 3-4 shift deal. He still thinks the old 305 was a monster on top end !!

 

i out the 145 speedo in mine i got it to 130 once had to backoff the throttle a lil (bout 3/4 or so to shift to 4. once it hits 115 or so 3rd tops

The Motor Trend Top Speed issue (in 87 or 88)
featued a 350 GTA which reached a top speed of 141mph. Incidently my old 305/5spd/3.45
(87 IROC) hit 4500 rpm in 4th= 135-137mph.
But then again I was at 3500ft so at sea level I would expect 142+

 

well, when I had my 305 all stock I got it just passed 140 145? and still had more tach but, it was close to red line it may have been for all I know just know it did it and it was still going. this is with 3.23's now the 350 has the t-5 and 5th is so tall. the auto would do 65 mph at 2200 rpm now the t-5 does 80 mph at 2200 and yes both auto and manual were checked with radar and dead on.
