Help Need to get my car RUnning Normal!!!
Well so far i changed the fuel filter, fuel pump relay and the ignition module, and still have the same problem. it will start if given starter fluied but if u bring the rpms too high while driving the car just dies. I have noticed ive heard a very subtle poping noise coming from the vacinity of the distributor and it gets more noticable the more gas u give it, could the distributor be the cause of my problems?? i dont see how but if anyone knows l could use the help thanks

I had the same problem with my GTA, but I had to recently replace the engine because of rod bearings. So, I never found out what the problem was, but it hasn't done it since. Good luck I'am kind of curious what it was. Just to add, the only way I got it started was by starting fluid in air intake also.

could it be slop in the dist gear. If the timing was going all over the place, it would make it hard to start and possibly quit while driving?

Alright i tested the fuel pressure, when i turned the key without cranking the pressure read 39-40 psi and then during cranking it went to 42-43 psi, so i suppose i can rule out the fuel pump.

I always thought my problem was the Mass Air Flow sensor, but I never checked it.

I still think you have fuel problem.
Either in the fuel tank pickup being clogged or your injectors are clogged. The use of starter fluid to start the car is a key indicator. Then it sounds like the engine starves for fuel when you up the rpm.
You can have good fuel pressure if there is little flow like when starting or key on. But the obstruction shows up when you get the rpm going and need more flow.
Measure fuel pressure while you move up through the rpm to where the engine dies. I'll bet it starts dropping as rpm goes up.

Just as previously stated, this is obviously a fuel problem - and also as already stated you can have good pressure without good flow. One of the things you still need to figure out is if the injector ohms are right, because you may have 1 or more dead injectors - I found 4 on my Corvette. Also, you may have some injectors that are clogged or you may even have a clogged fuel pickup.
Also, this is probably not it, but its a shot in the dark: Do you notice a pressure sound, or a sucking sound when removing you gas cap?

apologies for bringing back an old post but i've got the same problems.... should there be no pressure like that at your gas cap? i hear a sucking/pressure noise at the cap and when i open the cap, it releases a load of pressure inside the tank. you mean that isnt normal?
