MAF measures actual airflow, MAP calculates airflow. 80s GM MAFs read to 255 grams/sec - not that much. After that point, the computer adds fuel based on RPM and TPS. MAFs cost a lot of money. High performance guys switch to MAP from MAF because of the 255 g/s thing. There is a page on switching from MAF to MAP - I can dig it up if you'd like.

...the fact that it is maf not map doesnt bother me at all ..i havent started the conversion yet ..just if i go map i will need an ecm .....i still need to get a harness whether i go map or maf so isnt that big a deal my main concern is for the accessories like tha speedo etc ..i want to know that they will work with the conversion ...i can prob sell the maf (brand new) to cover the cost of the ecm again so it isnt a problem ..someone must have done this before !!!

You have a 91 car, use the 91 speed density system. Or use the 89 MAF system. Those would be the two best choices. Whichever one you choose depends on which one you get first, for the best price.

Ok then, yes it should work. I dont now when the Corvettes went to electronic speedos, but the Firebirds did in 87, and they still used the same 7165 computer that the Camaros did, but with cable speedos till 89.

MAF will support more hotrodding without custom chips, that I do know, as far as the rest I'm not sure, I know both computers require the same signals, the vss can be done with an adapter. I believe the corvette uses dual o2's though. Give me more details and i can figure it out.

thanks problemchild
this is an 86 vette and i believe that it only has one o2 sensor ..the adapter for the vss sounds good though
this setup wont be going in till the motor is built and all associated stuff is obtained because i will not be able to get anything from the junk yard ..

Corvette's did not go to dual O2s until somewhere in the 90's...

My 89 has one O2 and is a MAF set-up

Hey ausrs...

You may want to look into Holley's ECU setup...it has the ecu (programmable), SD wiring harness that eliminates the MAF, does not use the VAT's. VSS may be an issue, but email Holley for details...price seems right at about 750/800 USD.

The reason I mention this is after 250 for a harness, another 250 for a prom, and hoping it'll be what you want on the first shot....the price gets pretty close to the Holley setup.
