My next mod should be ______
My next mod should be ______
The only thing that is not on my signature that I have is a TpiS AFPR..I haven't put in on yet. What should I do after that? I was thinking I should do some dremeling since I will be taking the plenum off anyway..Where should I go from there though? I have some guidelines for me desired mods. I'd like to finish off all possible bolt on's excluding heads and if you consider it one, a cam. It has to be under 200 bucks because I am poor and I have to save up to learn(gay gay gay). These are the things I was thinking..Roller Rockers, Pulleys, hi-flo cat, better PROM, Cold air with filtercharger, and injectors. Thats all I really could think of. Headers aren't really an option because Hooker and SLP is all I'm really interested in and both cost more than I can afford and I don't have a weekend that I can't drive and just devote it to taking apart the passenger side of the engine. I don't want to change up the gears because I was planning to do that when I find an aluminum drive shaft for cheap. Soo..got any ideas? What would you guys do? What makes the most potent 305? Out of the bolt on's of coarse. I don't want to spend 150 bucks for 4 horsepower at the crank. My realistic bolt on goal is a 14.3-14.5 at around 95 MPH. Thanks alot for your help and ideas.

if you want the most bang for your buck , get a cam. the small mods(port plenum, pulleys) dont add much horespower but they dp add up in costs.. roller rocker arms are too expensive for the 15hp increase they give.
I agree whole heartidly..but I'd like to finish off the bolt on's before swaping the cam. I'd also like to put World heads on there with a new cam. I think that would be a fun change. Unfortuneatly that buck that I am spending for the bang is too far out of my income range right now. I'd have to have someone do the work and I think my T-5 would explode with one pass power shifting. thanks alot though..what would you pick out of the mods I listed though..thanks again..seeya

out of the mods you listed , i would get the pulleys, port the plenum, gut the cat(free), play around with your timing, make a homemade cold air induction, and get your injectors cleaned. remember though,, all of this wont add up yo much, maybe 35hp
if you do gut the cat, make sure you can pass inspection. my car passed the idle inspection with a gutted cat. never tried it on the dyno inspection.

35 Horsepower from bolt on's isnt that bad..You would get the injectors cleaned instead of going with a little larger injectors? The pulleys also claim power at the wheels which is good because 90 percent of manufactors are claiming at the crank. If I can hook up and get a 14.7 now..35 hp more would put me in the 14.4 range which is where I want to be. Then I can start actually doing real mods. I just want everything on the car to perform well. It bugs me when people do a cam swap on a stock 305..you open the valves more but the rest of the car still sucks. It makes your weak links stand out more. Ya know? Maybe it's just me..thanks alot though

bigger injectors on a mostly stock 305 is not needed, just bump up the fuel pressure a little,, i wouldnt go any higher then 47psi on YOUR car, go up gradually to find the best psi for your setup. mess with the timing too.
Yea every one seems to be saying mess with the timing..a 6-8 degree advance seems to be what people are recommending. BTW..if you are running too rich, would you smell something at WOT? I am not sure what running rich smells like..but I do smell something through the vents if I stay on it past like 85 mph..I think I need a new ECM because a diagnostic place said I did after troubleshooting my MAF burn off problems but I don't know if I believe them..they said the ECM wasn't grounding correctly..would that effect the total functionality of the ECM of just specific functions? Thanks alot Ron

I know you said that you did not want to add headers because they were too expensive and difficult to install but, they were by far my best bang for the buck. Before the header install I had run a 14.88 as my best pass. With the headers I knocked 5 tenth off my quarter times and picked up 5 MPH. I went from 14.80's-14.90's to 14.30's-14.40's.
I used MAC headers and have had excellent results with fit and performance.

Are you nuts? I never seen pulleys, porting the plenum, gutting the cat, adjusting your timing, make a homemade cold air induction, and get your injectors cleaned give 35 hP.
this is where the internet draws the line from real bolt-on hp and internet hp.
You cannot just add up all the advertised ratings from each bolt-on, they are best world numbers based on modified engines and are really just advertising claims to get buisness.
The said mods might get you 7 hp.

your welcome......
now,, if you were running rich, you would not smell it through the vents, only from the exhaust pipes, and you should set off a code. if the smell is "sweet" it may be coolant.. check for a leak.
i cant answer your ecm question, but if it isnt working properly im sure you would have drivability problems and get an ses light. good luck
