Nader Declared Winner!!

Now that I have your attention. I'll finally be getting around to doing my 350 TPI swap this weekend (hopefully). Before I slap everything together, are there any suggestions that you all could give me? I was wondering what the common mistakes and overlooked aspects of the swap were. What should I do while the TPI is off the engine (as far as mods or prep work, etc.)? What would you have done differently? By the way, the system is an 87 MAF system (I think it's an 87). Thanks.

James

Port the plenum while the motor is out.
Good luck

Nevermind just the plenum, port-match EVERYTHING while you've got it apart. The base needs the most help.

Why waste your time with the stock base? Just get a new base and you'll be happier

13.51@104.27, but can run better as it is.

I just put a new 2100-2300 RPM TQ Converter. I hope a 13.20 or better

In a previous thread on this board the following flow numbers were posted:

Runners
stock tpi 203cfm
Accel large tube 242 cfm
Extrude honed Accel 275 cfm
SuperRam 289 cfm

Base manifolds
stock 222 cfm
Accel 251 cfm
Accel extrude 276 cfm
Edelbrock perf RPM dual plane 286 cfm

If the stock base already outflows the stock runners, why is the base more important to mod?

I'm pretty sure those are ported #'s on the stock base.I read a post where a guy ported his base from one end to the other and got 2cfm less than an unported big mouth base (which is a ported edlebrock base)so with lots of porting a stock base will do anything you need and some SLP siamiesed runners portmatched to the plennum will go all the way to 5700rpm wich is plenty high on a stock bottom end sbc.
I would use felpro 1205 or 1206 intake gaskets to port match to the base and look at standard abrasives websites on porting heads and do as much as you feel comfortable with. With a good tune and fully ported heads and intake as well as the SLP runners you should be around 13.50's with the stock stall converter and maybe 3.27 gears(Depending on you cam).Good luck I hope it goes well for you.
