I am not sure on your egr but, did you replace the sensor that is mounted on it? some times carbon build up in the manifold will do it. or even as simple as using too much silicone. if you even used any (I hope not) you can check the vacume lines too well really should first.

Different years used different EGR Setups (temp sensor/no temp sensor). To find out more about EGR, check out EGR There are two parts to this, so check them both out.

As for the concern, starting with a GM valve is your first best move, then making sure that the solenoid has adequate vacuum is your next. Make sure none of the hard plastic lines arn't cracked or dryrotted. Visually inspect them carefully, they can be hard to spot.

It may look the same, but still may be different. Make sure there isn't a threaded hole in the base for the temp sensor in one of them. Also, it could be that one was a Positive backpressure valve, and the other was a negative backpressure valve. Try it out and see what it does.

Check the voltage to the solinoid, with the the key on you should have 12 volts or more to the pink/blk wire. If you have voltage then spray some WD-40 into the solinoid and let it soak. Then have someone turn the key on and off while you put your fingers on the solinoid to feel a click, if no click replace the solinoid.

Is your exhaust modified any? Too little backpressure will cause code 32
