i'm researching a new engine build and had a few questions. i'm going with the goodwrench crate motor and trick flow heads(bigger cam, etc.) the question i had is after researching the prices for an aftermarket intake, runners, larger throttle body, etc., would i be better off just getting the miniram from tpis? i know i would also have to get fuel rail stuff, but what is needed exactly to install the miniram and the total cost? thanks for the help!

It depends on what car you are putting the crate engine into. If the car had a carbed engine, you will need a high flow fuel pump.

Of course, you will need fuel injectors.

An adjustable fuel pressure regulator is a good idea.

the motor is going in an 86 Z28. i'm yanking out the old tired 305 TPI and just wanted to know if it would be benificial to buy a new intake and runners, or go with the MiniRam!

Is the crate motor that you want to put the miniram on is a 350 or a 305?
We really need much more detail info on your situation and plans.

Don't bother with the high flow runners, base, and plenum. Get the Miniram!
Nothing comes close to it!
You will pull hard up past 6000RPM with the right cam of course.
With the base, plenum and runners you 're still limited to the low 5000RPM range.

I think long tubes are cool, and people that turn them down have no reason to do so....hot rod mag in 87 had an article on a Z28 with long tubes, base, heads and stock cam (TPIS stock l98 cam, same duration same lift than the stock L98 but more precisly grinded) and with some 3.73 and a 2500 stall that car ran 12.6 all day (don't know if they had slicks too), the dyno # where like 320hp at 4700rpm if I remember right....anyway, it ran 12.6 so they did some right. I just love the fact that you can run a car so fast and yet not have the "need" to turn 6500 rpms...to me that's a great street set up...
and yea with a miniram it probably would have gone 11's with the right cam...I think it all depend what you want...I still think that a car that idle like stock and runs that fast is got to be fun to drive around...if you get my drift!
oh and to add to this, go to Camaross.org and one guy there is running 10's on slp runners...well that's what he claims...nice pics of the engine to....

Which goodwrench crate engine? If its the generic replacement, it has crappy heads, a small cam, and will suck with a Miniram on it. You can stick your stock TPI back on it, as long as the intake lines up. 85-86 intake manifolds will only fit heads with the 86 and older bolt hole style.
