Did you port those heads? I'd do that first, if you havent already. And with more duration you can run more compression so... may as well replace pistons.

Get a solid roller with more lift.

Re: Comp XFI280 Cam

so far i've heard a few good things about that cam... more so with the XFI series. the 268 is a hot cam for TPI setups. 280 is better for 383's and larger. lift is not bad with 1.6 rockers. its up near .570 i believe.

Combination motorsports sells some custom high lift grinds that have similar duration with lift up near .612 lift with 1.6 rockers. try that over a solid roller, i'm curious as to how that cam would react in a nice 383 longblock

Re: Comp XFI280 Cam

I have it

It is on a 383 sbc gen 1 with the LT1 intake.
It idles well, but I had to increase the idle speed to 750.

As for power, it propelled my 3650lb car (with me in it) in the 1/8th mile for an et of 8.1 @ 84.
All the mods are in the sig. That is with a 48mm throttle body, 24 lb injectors and 1 5/8 shorty headers, which are all restrictions for me.

I have one in a 305 TBI small block. Ran 11.80s in the 1/4 with a 1.95s 60' time.
