search for egr is giving error..... help

i tried searching for egr but it kept giving me an error......

my problem is that i have an egr code, what are the basic steps i should take to diagnose it? does anyone have a list of steps? thanks!

btw the egr is new, the intake is clean...... thanks

1989 should still have the EGR temp sensor screwed into the base of the EGR valve. Did you transfer it over to the new valve? Is it plugged in? Check all of your vacuum lines, make sure you have vacuum up to the solenoid.

i'm pretty sure i have vaccum but how do i check it? do i have vaccum ONLY when the car is crusing??? then how am i supposed to check it?!?!

lol alright, i guess thats the most direct way. so lets say its getting no vaccum at all, i know from the egr it goes into something that gets vaccum from the bottom of the throttle body. i know that the throttle body is getting vaccum, so where could i get that piece that the hoses go into since its probably the thing leaking?

Try your favorite parts store or the stealership. Never had to buy one of those before.
You may have to buy the whole solenoid.

There is a test procedure outlined in the Haynes/Chiltons/Helms/Shop manuals. I just went through it with my car (92). If you really need it, I'll try to scan it for you...

Sometimes, a lack of back pressure will cause the computer to set a EGR fault. I see that you run headers w/ no cats. Could be the reason.
