V-belt to Serpentine system

How do you convert to this system? I want to do it so I can add a supercharger someday. What parts do you need, where can they be bought and do most mechanics know how to do this if I can't do it?

This mod is SIMPLE, contact CAMARO HEAVEN at 1-800-CAMARO-1 and they will sell you EVERYTHING needed to converted to the 88-92 serpertine setup. It is really simple and I WOULDN'T let anyone do it. You will need to get a CS-130 series 105 amp alternator, the 88-92 POWER STEERING PUMP pulley, 88-92 A/C HP and LP lines, and compressor. Make certain that you get ALL the bolts to attach the assembly, in particular, the VERY LONG bolt that holds the A/C-AIR PUMP bracket. It cannot be substituted, since it has a small flat head, plus it is female TORX drive and clears the AIR PUMP PULLEY. The ALT/PWR STEERING bracket also has a special bolt for the bottom ALT pivot that is female TORX drive. The bolts that that hold the POWER STEERING PUMP in place are female TORX drive also, and clears the pulley. The bolts that attach the brackets to the engine block and heads are all 3/8-16 so they could be substituted for HEX HEADS. HTH's and just tell CAMARO HEAVEN that you want ALL BOLTS AND BRACES. BTW, the braces are needed or, the brackets can suffer stress cracks.

Do not, do not, do not forget about the water pump. The v-belt one uses a standard ROTATION pump. The serpentine one uses a reverse ROTATION pump. A LT1 uses a reverse FLOW pump.
Make sure you get a new water pump from a serpentine car, I think 88 or newer. I always just ask for 89 parts for my accessarys.
Be prepared, this mod will cost about $500 due to all the new accessarys required(all of them).
I picked up my brackets and pullys from the classified here at thirdgen.org for around $150.

My 87 originally had the V-belts, but I bought a complete engine out of a 88 Camaro that had the serpintine setup. Everything bolted in, event the 88's air cond lines. The worst part about it was the wires. I had to lengthen and shorten some of the alternator and AC wires.
I wouldn't mess around buying all new pieces. Your best bet is to find a set-up off of a GM V-8 truck. That would be a good start, f-car's are harder to find. You would have to check about the AC lines etc. I'm not sure if the truck ones will bolt right to the F-car system.

I got my brackets and pulleys(crankshaft and water pump)off an 89 305 Camaro in the junkyard. Actually, I got them to throw in all the accessories since they were no good any way and I used the ps pump and a/c for cores. I rebuilt the alt and reused it. Bolted right up to my 400 block. I put a new bearing in the idler pulley to be on the safe side. I think I gave about $150 for everything including the a/c hose.

Don't bother with the brackets off of a GM V-8 truck. They do not allow enough clearance for the TPI throttle body or for the thermostat housings water neck.

That is correct, the brackets from a truck WILL NOT WORK!! Go to a salvage(junk) yard and get the brackets from a camaro or firebird. 1988 to 1992 is the same, it doesn't matter if it is tbi or tpi, as long as it is serpentine. You will also need to get the crank and water pump pulleys if you are doing a conversion for a truck, otherwise you will need all the accessories. Make sure you take a socket set and a torx set, you will need them to get some of the fasteners off.
