Changing Fuel Filter

Hello All,

I am going to change my fuel filter tomorrow. Am I correct in assuming that I have to full the fuel pump fuse while the car is running to bleed-down the fuel pressure?

Should I still expect to get drenched when I am under the car. My tank is close to full will this make a differance?

Thanks,
William

i've never pulled the fuse, i open a fitting on the engine to bleed preasue. it's messy any way i've ever done it. there are rubber plugs made so you can cap off your line while you're getting the new stuff ready, or cleaning up.

I've never bled the FP while changing the fuel filter, or while adjusting the FP.

You won't get drenched at all.

Thanks who replied. Fortumately, I had a container to collect the fuel that pored out during the swap. I would say I lost about 14-16oz. I am sure the lawn mower appreciated it.

Unplug the battery, open the gas tank the relieve the pressure and you shouldnt get soaked in gas, but some will come out.

I can't believe no one has mentioned this. Next time you do this, unplug the weatherpack connector for the fuel pump. It's located above the rear suspension. Just get the car in the air, get under it, and you'll see it if you look in the right spot. Once you do this, you can start the car and it will run for about 20 seconds and die. Crank it again to make sure there is no FP. Now you can do this with no fuel running all over the place. Just make sure that you don't have the car angled with the front end downward at all, or the fuel will run out of the tank and into the fuel lines due to gravity, and you'll make a mess.
