Need chip reccomendations
What is the best "chip" for the least money (and don't say "Lays, sour cream and onion"). I hear that Hypertech is pretty wimpy. Anybody have any suggestions?

I was pretty happy with my Performance Resource Chip I got for $200 with the cal-pacs, it took a good .3 off my 1/4th ET and gave me 2 mpg better over the last 7 months.

If your motor is stock you can probably get a normal aftermarket chip that will suit you fine. If you have done any mod's Ed Wright is the one to talk to. I do however suggest that you do whatever mod's you want to do to the car first because Ed will take all those into consideration before burning your chip.

Bernard, I am surprised that you don't consider burning your own eprom? You have access to the scan tool and probably get spare GM memcals at a discount (I like using 2).
I guarantee that by the time you burn your 3rd eprom (usually within a couple of days) that it will far closer to the 128/128 "perfection" than anything you could buy from anyone; especially with your knowledge.
The eraser costs $39, burner (Needhams $69 or Pocket Programmer $129) and Editor (TunerCat $69 or GMEPRO $100). That's it, and then you can tweak to your hearts content.
E-mail me if you have any further questions or want additional information. I guarantee that if you start burning your own chips, within 2 weeks you'll wonder why you even considered an aftermarket chip and why you never did this sooner.

Ed has just plain performance boosting chips as well, just like JET and Performance Resource and whoever else. He also as noted, has the ability to custom burn chips.

I agree with Dan...PR burns a good chip. There chips have modified part throttle programing also. I noticed a big difference with it, over the stock chip on my 90. You will need 93 octane though they have a pretty agressive timing curve, at part and full throttle. They are not cheap though about 200.00 with the calpack for my car.

You know I was going to say the same thing to you that GLENN91L98GTA said but he beat me!
But he is right!
With your knowledge you would probably be the best programmer around, at least for your car! In the time you waited to get these responeses you could have gotten the stuff and been burning your fisrt chip.
Just think how stupid I feel about buying the TPIS LEVEL 5 chip ($500) and now I can't get the burning equipment, The PROM article can out after I got the chip and my funds are depleted for now!
Good Luck!
